A lot of people run up more debt than you realize and don't save like they should.

My wife and I got in an argument the other day about it because I pretty much told her that her friends are either making money illegally on the side of what they are doing for their career, their parents are paying for everything or they are going into massive debt to go. And she didn’t want to hear it but it’s the truth.

You are 100% correct and I have these same conversations with my wife and get the same response

Gen Z has its issues. As someone who is Gen Z I’ll be the first one to tell you that. But many of us just want this, the acknowledgment that we are getting the short end of the stick right now. I don’t expect hand outs or someone to fix it for me, but quit telling me to just pull myself up by my bootstraps.

I just tell my wife most sane families have two incomes once the kids are old enough to make dinner for the whole family.

Glad I’m not the only one In this boat. And yea with daycare for 2 kids being more than my mortgage it’s gotten ridiculous. Between daycare mortgage and our 2 car loans $5500 comes out each month before we even start putting food on the table

I'd suggest looking at something a lot less expensive if you need to keep your payments similar.

That’s the problem. If you live in a decent house and want to move and keep your payments similar, you’re downgrading to a complete dump in what is most likely a very undesirable location.

The 2008 financial crisis was our titanic moment. Between then and now, some people were able to get off the sinking ship, but it was the start of the divided line between those who got established before and those who are stuck after.

My in-laws thought I was crazy for putting down 5% on the home I purchased for my wife and I in 2021. I graduated college 6 months prior and it was almost every dollar I had saved up. But I knew if we didn’t get in then with the low interest rates, it wasn’t going to happen. Every year since then has just proven me right. I feel for my friends who weren’t about to do that.

Those super low rates were an anomaly. The current rates are more normal historically.

Problem is there’s not a damn thing to do about it, you got to just keep grinding and live in the day.

Something has to give soon though, no way this is sustainable.

My wife and I are in the same boat. If we financed the same amount at today's average rate that we did in 2020 it'd be almost 1k more a month just from the interest. The same house would cost about 100k more than what we paid in 2020.
just ran similar question through Grok. House purchased early 22’ month before interest rates jumped.
Financing the same amount today would be about $1,800 more per month and house would be about $4-500k more.

Ain’t no way we could swing it considering we went from 1 to 3 kids since 2022

It’s cheap compared to some people I know for the same things but also at the same time imagine telling someone 10 years ago that’s how much they would be paying.

A lot of factors. People need to say no and stop buying shite. That’s the number one driver in prices coming down.

On the other hand, we pay our engineering interns $24/hour. I made $23.54/hour as an intern in 1999.

My best offer out of college in 2000 was $65k/year. Had 9 offers. I haven’t been involved in hiring an entry level EE in prob 6-7 years, but last one was $72k/year in ~ 2019.

That’s where your biggest issue is. Again tho, people need to stop buying overpriced shite with alien options they never use or didn’t even want to begin with.

I'll give it to ya you are the king of making shite up.Im just not so sure why you hafta lie on a internet message board..
