Quartz isn't natural stone.

It's pieces bonded together.

Go with Quartzite. Awesome looking stuff.

Where did you get that quote from? I am looking for a good granite place for our new home. We are in Cenla so our options are limited around here.

not sure if anyone has mentioned but there are a lot more options/styles with quartz than with granite.

i just finished a remodel and went with a quartz that looked like marble.

edit- i also love the butcher/boos block idea, but only for an island (like pictured on the previous page). not really a fan of having it for the whole kitchen.

Ray Nagin never took anything for granite -- at least that's what he claimed at his criminal trial.

What is the overall style of your house? Typical new 'French country' style homes in my area (Lafayette-ish) are well suited to granite or quartzite. Quartz fits well in more modern style homes, or as an easier-to-care-for substitute for marble in traditional homes. We installed soapstone in our farmhouse.

If you like to cook, stainless steel with a built-in 1.5" cutting board to rt of cook top and a bar sink right of the board, with garbage disposal.

If you like the look of marble definitely go with quartzite instead. Marble is really to soft and porous for a kitchen application.

We did soapstone 4 years ago and still love it. Best surface if you are a cook and use the area for prep. Can put hot pans directly on them. The maintenance is easy as well.
But for color variations granite is a great product.

I really like soapstone, too. Not sure I'm willing to drop the $ on them, though.

Been shopping for close to a year in Lafayette. I hate the new homes here with a passion. Looked at 9 houses last weekend, pretty sure they were all the same. :/

amc granite and countertop(baton rouge)

LINK

$20/sqft installed is just for 3 low end granites that are similar just different colors

He measured and worked up final quote for 44 sq ft installed with 6 inch back-splash(my spec) and an 18 gauge under mount sink for $1,300. I think that comes to $29 sq/ft, but that's because of the sink and edging/polish for the sink and the extra cut polish for my 2x4 raised island/breakfast bar.

Even though the price is decent, I'm considering going the $35 route(even though it's a rental) for Galaxy white, I think it's worth the extra $700

As others have said, I wouldn't put marble in the kitchen.
