re: Cinque Terre -- tell me about your experiences - BlueSharpie on 5/10/19 at 7:49 pm
I think you will enjoy it! We stayed a few days in Matera (also highly recommended) and then took the local train over to Bari and then on to Polignano. From there, we did a day trip over to Alberobello and some nearby hill towns with an absolutely NOT recommended guide. But, other than that dude, ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Cinque Terre -- tell me about your experiences - BlueSharpie on 5/10/19 at 1:44 pm
Cinque Terre remains one of my absolute favorite places on earth. We were there in July of 2017, but I researched ahead of time to be there when no cruise ships were in port nearby to avoid the crazy crowds of day trippers. We arrived by train and had no problems doing so. Easy. We stayed three ni...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Easy Jet flights within Europe - BlueSharpie on 12/28/17 at 12:09 am
Sometimes we’ve flown “business class” on those types of flights (which usually includes checked bag, seat assignments, priority boarding— so you don’t have to worry about added fees) for cheaper than the regular fare on the big name airlines. I know Ryanair often has sales where business class is €...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Where do you plan to travel next year? - BlueSharpie on 12/27/17 at 11:33 pm
For our family trips,we have Disney at Easter, followed by our first time going to Universal. Then we have two weeks (latter half of July) in Switzerland, followed by a short Lake Como stay. In the fall, my husband and I will do a Caribbean/Mexico trip with other couples, but that’s not planne...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Looking for recommendations on all inclusives in the Caribbean - BlueSharpie on 11/28/17 at 8:28 am
We have been to a few AI’s over the years with other couples. All were adults-only, which is nice and I’d definitely recommend that for a honeymoon. Here’s a brief summary of the ones in which I’ve stayed- Secrets The Vine- in Cancun, good food, nice rooms, lots of people, plenty of activities, e...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Traveling and safety in Rome and Florence - BlueSharpie on 10/5/17 at 8:37 am
We (husband, me, 3 elementary aged kids) visited both cities in July, walked pretty much everywhere, and always felt safe. We stayed in apartments rented via vrbo or FlipKey. In Florence, we were across the street from the Academia. In Rome, we stayed in a residential area right by Piazza Navona. ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Punta Cana - Anyone know how bad the Zika Virus is down there? - BlueSharpie on 5/15/17 at 8:55 am
We stayed at that very resort last October. (It was kind of a disappointment, btw...) Anyway, they had warnings re: Zika everywhere and sprays for guests to use, etc. The only time mosquitoes got us was when we went on a day trip away from the resort (which was the highlight of the trip in spite of ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Birthday trip for husband- your opinion - BlueSharpie on 5/14/17 at 9:54 pm
That brings up a question that maybe some of you can answer- Will the roads be easily drivable at the end of October? If any special knowledge of winter driving is needed, I'm not sure if driving ourselves is a good idea. Anyone that's been in late October/early November remember what road conditio...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
Birthday trip for husband- your opinion - BlueSharpie on 5/14/17 at 12:50 pm
I'm planning a fall trip for my husband and have narrowed it down to two options. Before I go too far with my planning, I thought I'd ask for opinions, given that he may share similar interests with many of you. He likes hiking, visiting new places, and LSU football. We like to stay in nice/safe/c...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (9)
re: Electronics ban expanding... - BlueSharpie on 5/11/17 at 9:08 am
Yeah, iPads make flying overseas with kids so much easier. We'll be fine (if this goes into effect before our summer italy vacation) with the movies on the plane, books, notepads, etc., but, seriously- what's the difference between an iPad mini that my eight year old would be playing on and my iPhon...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Initial Stages of Planning my Italy Trip - BlueSharpie on 3/27/17 at 11:26 am
Thanks for the advice (if you were indeed replying to me). We travel with our three elementary aged kids (6, 8, 11), so I have to have at least a rough plan of what we will be doing so I can make sure to include things that they would like in addition to things my husband and I would enjoy. So, even...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Initial Stages of Planning my Italy Trip - BlueSharpie on 3/27/17 at 8:24 am
Sounds great! We're doing a very similar trip this July: Venice 2 days, Florence 3 days and a day trip to Volterra and san gimignano from Florence, 3 days in riomaggiore (cinque terre) stopping in Lucca to bike the city walls on the wall there and in pisa for the leaning tower on our way back from c...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2)
re: Across America on a motorcycle - BlueSharpie on 2/15/17 at 10:23 am
My dad drives one of his antique motorcycles across the country every couple of years in the Motorcycle Cannonball. [link=(http://www.motorcyclecannonball.com)]LINK[/link] They generally avoid interstates. Maybe digging around online for some of the old routes they have used will give you some ideas...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: NYC with Kids - BlueSharpie on 1/23/17 at 9:47 am
We went to NYC when my youngest two were similar in age to your children. They loved Statue of Liberty (especially the ferry ride over/ back), Top of the Rock, riding the subway, and especially Central Park. The Met was also a hit with them; MoMA was not. ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
