Getting ready for a big remodel. Are granite countertops still considered desirable or have we moved on to something else?

Someone will be here shortly to tell you how trashy granite is and what they have is the best.

what is the first thing you decide to change in a remodel?
ie, do you pick cabinets first and base everything else on that?
or is it countertops?
or something else?

Quartz is the new granite bro

I am also interested in the answer to this. I cook a lot and am worried about upkeep and staining of granite.

You should get what you like and can afford.
If you have to ask, you're not a part of the club.

Do you mean actual granite? Or do you mean stone?

It's not actual quartz though, right?
Here's what you need to do...find the percent of quartz and feldspar minerals you see in your countertop. Then use this diagram:
From that you can get an ACTUAL name of your counter top.

Whatever you do, don't take this decision for granite.

White quartz really is beautiful against a dark stain or even a gray cabinet/island config. Eye catching.

No lie, you're harder than corundum right now, aren't you?

I like the quartz that looks like marble. Way less etching.

So, diamond?

Quartz or granite is the answer.
If you want to be a little different, I've seen some countertops that are basically one giant Boos Block, which I thought looked pretty good and is super convenient when cooking.
It's not for all people, but I actually like the look of concrete countertops as well.

This
1) you don't have to seal it
2) Its crushed quartz and a resin so it can be made to fit your counter top better with less or no seams.

I really just want you to tell me what to buy so my friends and family won't mock me after they leave my house.
