It is not literally quartz though.
Literal quartz counter tops would require you to cut along the long axis of a very large quartz crystal. And those cost a fortune.
So, that's not what is happening.
It is a quartzolite or a quartz-rich granitoid or a quartzite.
Both are rocks, which can be attained for much much less money by consumers.

Never dug the granite look.
I think marble and quartz look much better.
If you want to go sort of "out there" and new then try concrete or butcher's block. I think both of those look real good if done right.

Quartz or Granite
Pros and cons to each...do your homework and decide what fits you and your lifestyle.

Quartz is the new rage, but I like granite better. Granite is also cheaper

Quartz is little to no maint where as granite you have to seal again about once a year. Granite can also stain from substances like red wine where as quartz won't. Granite is all natural quartz is about 92% natural.

Depends... You looking at a builder grade granite or something with a little more character?
To me, builder grade uba tuba or baltic brown look dated to me.
We went with quartzite, not to be confused with man-made quartz. I highly recommend that material. It allows a similar look of marble without the maintenance nightmare. We chose a very clean/white slab of taj mahal.

No shite? I don't think anyone thinks that's a solid slab of quartz you're buying. It's an engineered stone of roughly 90% ground quartz (or whatever you call it) and resin.
BTW my kid spilled red food coloring all over mine and it didn't stain. Pretty happy about that...especially since they're white.

Is $28 sqft installed for new ventian gold or saint Cecilia a good deal?

Getting ready for a big remodel. Are granite countertops still considered desirable or have we moved on to something else?
Granite is fine. My house that I'm building will have concrete.
