Unless they already found it and already started recovery ops and just haven’t released that publicly, it’s too late. Even if they found it right now, there’s just not enough time to rig that thing up and lift it

They may find a crushed tin can one day

At least Everest you have a decent view and see some cool shite throughout the expedition. These fricking guys had a window the size of a basketball hoop. That sub is pretty much a septic tank with a porthole. The only reason you’d ever get in that is to say you did. You can’t convince me that anything you experience is at all worth the trouble let alone the risk and money.
Yea there’s no physical accomplishment
No mental achievement
No tangible boots on the ground
No feeling the elements
The view on your tv would be more engaging.
It’s just getting locked in a tank for bragging rights

Yep, the sub had a leak or imploded, IMO. I hope I'm wrong
I hope you're right.
Quick painless death if it imploded. Slowly suffocating as oxygen is depleted is way more painful.

Also, you can stop halfway and say…nope, I’m out….and walk back down.

If they got instantly crushed, would anything even float up?

There’s nothing, no propaganda, no studies, absolutely nothing that would ever convince me to get into what looks like an enclosed pontoon boat and travel 2.5 miles into the ocean depths. And to think they paid $250,000 for this lunacy??

I agree, just to see a 110 yr old rotten ship that deep.
I’d rather lay on a float in the Gulf in 3 ft of water with an umbrella drink.

I wouldn't do it if he paid me $250,000
I wouldn't do it for $250,000,000

Can youimagine if they ended up dropping ballast and got to top and then in last hour of useable air a rescue ship finds them. Then the ship crew doesn’t have the right sized tool to undo the bolts to let them out?

The only thing I can reasonably understand is that I would guess being a Billionaire, you would run out of things to do since money is no object
Posted on 6/21/23 at 9:15 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
The way they cut corners just amazes me. The guy is a billionaire but wouldn’t pony up more that 30 bucks for a video game controller. I don’t have a billion dollars but you can bet your arse that if I had millions to invest in a damn sub, I wouldn’t head to game stop to solve my craft control engineering needs. As a passenger, I would have been stepping right back off the sub the moment I saw it was piloted by Nintendo

Cool startup idea:
Miniature 1-man submarine rides to let people see the submarine that sunk to the bottom of the ocean.

LOL
America loves a good reality drama series with hope. Occasionally there is a happy ending.
Spoilers: They’ve been dispersed energy since Sunday.

What frickin idiot signed off for the 19 year old to come on this death wish?

Not even Nintendo. It was a shite arse low end Logitech controller. That's a half step up from those junky Mad Catz controllers.

The video game controller isn’t the issue. That’s a fairly common way that heavy machinery is operated in some cases.
But yeah, literally everything else needed massive upgrades before they even thought of attempting half the distance they were trying to go.
The CEO sounds like one of those tools you knew in college who had to much to drink but wanted to drive saying “bro, bro it’s fine. Nothings gonna happen, you worry too much”.

Really? 49 pages in?

Would you prefer 20,000 leagues in lieu of 49 pages?
