It is clearly killing a lot of people, and that is tragic. But it is equally clear that for the vast majority of people it is nothing. And what is becoming equally clear is that there is not a damn thing we can do to keep it from spreading. We need to open up asap, carry on and get through this. Hiding in our homes accomplishes nothing other than extending the pandemic.

Sweden had it right all along.

fwiw the non FDA approved test have shown a lot of false positives and been wildly inaccurate. That's probably what he used as that's all a private individual can get on a wide scale from what I understand. Joe Rogan just had a mob after him for having multiple tests for him and his guest but it turns out it was the non FDA test that he paid for.

Ummm, it's been widely reported and very early on that you can have the shite for 2 weeks with no symptoms and not even know it.

So all 36 who tested positive just happened to be in the pre-symptom stage?

Sweden is still doing it. Lets see how it plays out before we laugh at them. I'll bet they'll be having concerts and sporting events in the Fall.

Not all "common cold" is caused by a coronavirus.

Sweden's approach has been interesting, but it would never work here. The Swedes don't have a mistrust in their government and field experts that are pervasive here. They're also not a hyper-partisan country that turn everything into a political football.

We can certainly learn some things from their approach, but there is absolutely no way we would have had any success with their model because it required wholesale cooperation from the vast majority of citizens.

The Swedes don't mistrust their government as much BECAUSE of how their government responded to this. Their government is not as power hungry as ours and does not lie to their citizens about wars over terrorism, or uh, WMDs, or uh, regime change.

No, that trust was already there. They have trust in them because their government actually works to make all of their lives better, and does it without demonizing opposing political views. It's certainly a whole lot easier for them when their population is very homogeneous.

Sweden is about the size of California. People trust government the smaller and more local it is. You cannot compare Sweden to the USA.

Yeah, that's kind of the point I'm making. You can't really compare any country's response to another country's. Each one has their own laws and systems to follow, and each one has their own set of unique challenges and environment.

Trying to convince yourself that it's not that bad

It seems your baseline here Is the economy had to be shut down. There's really no way to measure how "bad" something is that it absolutely requires total shutdown.

It's absolute "bad" but thinking we overreacted doesn't mean anyone thinks it's harmless.
