Do you treat it as a 4 way stop or go straight through?

If this provokes an argument, you need to go back to driving school.

Mr tough guy. In a court of law it could be argued that it should be treated as a 4 way stop. Blowing through a yellow to get hit by a red is negligence

Unless marked as a 4-way stop, you assume that your flashing red light means you sit your arse there until it is clear and safe for you to enter the intersection, just the same as you would if it were a stop sign that wasn't marked as a 4-way intersection. That's PRECISELY why one direction gets a yellow and one direction gets a red. The intersection isn't marked as a 4-way stop, so the red should not assume that it is a 4-way stop.

The yellow should also always assume that cross-traffic is going to act like an arse and be on guard.

Advantage : Baw with a shotgun rack in his truck's window.

Good point. I failed to factor that in.

If it isn’t functioning correctly as a traffic light (red, yellow, green), I treat it as a four way stop.

Unfortunately that concept is lost on many, even when the lights aren’t working at all.

No you're not. If you have a yellow the cross streets do not.

the direction you're traveling is blinking yellow and the other way is blinking red.

Had a really nasty accident in this situation about 15 years ago. Driving down Airline Hwy one night after a bad storm, lights were all messed up. Airline was just flashing yellow, and the side streets had flashing red. I'm heading North and get to the intersection right around where Don Carter's bowling alley is. Truck pulls up to the flashing red, stops, and then just pulls out right in front of me. He figured I had a flashing red as well. I broadside him at 40 mph, thank god for seatbelts and airbags.

This isn't complicated.

The person with the yellow flashing is supposed to yield the person with the red flashing is supposed to stop.

If it's yellow flashing in both directions and there's a lot of traffic then everybody should treat it as a four-way stop since everybody would have to yield. If there is no Crossing traffic than you can so down the check and then keep going without coming to a complete stop.

If it's a four-way flashing red Everybody Must treat it as a four-way stop regardless of any cross traffic

I love the way Texas handles their traffic and Street infrastructure. I also love how people in Texas pull into the parking Lane to make right-hand turns to get out of the lanes of traffic. Just keeps people moving.

I picked it up when I was living in Texas and now I do it here all the time in Louisiana. I'm hoping it catches on.

This is on the fricking driver's test is it not?

Yellow means yield, red means stop.

In your scenario the flashing yellows should slow down and watch out for morons, but legally have the right a way.

In BR, I’d treat it like a 4-way stop. Guaranteed SWB and her red light, ticket camera scam would be there.
