Time magazine to name Trump ‘Person of the Year’
quote:
On Thursday, TIME will announce the 2024 Person of the Year.
Since 1927, TIME has named a person, group, or concept that had the biggest impact—for good or for ill—on the world over the previous 12 months. In 2023, TIME selected pop superstar Taylor Swift as Person of the Year. Other previous selections include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the “spirit of Ukraine” in 2022, tech titan Elon Musk in 2021, the Ebola fighters in 2014, and former U.S. President Barack Obama in 2012 and 2008.

After being named TIME's "Athlete of the Year," Caitlin Clark apologizes for her white privilege and says that the WNBA is "built" on black players.
“I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege."
"A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them."
"The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that."

It should be Musk but I'd love it to be Rogan

Am I off base in thinking it should be Musk, and that it shouldn't be close?

Musk deserves it but won't get it only three years after his first.
Will likely be Trump

Not smart enough to leave their weed pen at home when traveling to a foreign country.

He should absolutely get it, he bought the election for the President of the United States.

My vote would be Elon or Rogan

Trump has him beat.

I would disagree. Maybe next year, but I would say that Musk, between Twitter/SpaceX and his newfound role in politics and agenda setting, has had a much larger impact in the past year than Trump has. Trump would have a better argument next year, in my opinion.

Agree to disagree.
Trump was literally shot in the head and then went on to secure the biggest republican victory in a generation, shifting almost literally the entire country to the right.
Also, Elon bought twitter and turned it into X over 2 years ago. That doesn't make him make him person of the year in 2024.

Kamala being a finalist is fricking hilarious. It should be Elon regardless of how recently he was already given the award, but I doubt it will be. Next most influential person on the list is Rogan IMO but I also don't see that happening,
Give it to Kate for her cancer journey I guess

Trump weathered multiple judicial accusations, was the first president convicted of a felony, reunited and reinvigorated the Republican Party, survived an assassination attempt, gained conservatives votes in literally every county in the US, and won the election despite being mired in scandals for most of the campaign.
It’s got to be Trump. Elon’s an interesting choice, but he supported Trump. He wasn’t the main story of the year.

Kamala bout to get that award

It should be Kamala for giving us the red wave that transcended all the way to the BR Mayors race.

Exactly. What has she done other than lose an election and blow a shite load of money?
I genuinely cannot think of a single success of hers or why she should even be mentioned in the same conversation as the other finalists.

She looks good in that photo

She successfully convinced a lot of people that she is black.
