Wasn't there a massive circlejerk about this dam when it was being built about how much of a technical wonder that China had built and why the United States wasn't following their lead?

Any chance the flooding will conveniently eliminate the xinjiang camps at a time when they're getting renewed international scrutiny?

Al Jazeera and the BBC are the only somewhat rational news sources left.

I saw an article with some retired Indian colonel saying the water had been at that level before without them opening the flood gates. He speculated they were trying to flood out Wuhan before health officials could learn the full scale of what was going on there.

Do those photos accurately depict warping in the dam? Holy chit!

Lol no. That's a shitty terrain model that was used to make the image.

Taiwan News

quote:

Vinayak told Taiwan News that based on his estimation, all the flood gates were at least partially open with at least five large gates fully open. He said that given that the dam had the structural integrity to withstand much higher water levels in the past, there was no need to open the floodgates as soon as June 24.

He then alleged that the purpose of opening the floodgates so early was "so that all evidence is washed away before the WHO representatives visit the Wuhan hospitals and lab." Two World Health Organization (WHO) experts went to Beijing over the weekend to discuss their plans to visit Wuhan to investigate the origins of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Dammit...I was scrolling through the whole thread for this thinking I might be the first to post it.

Though I was going to go with "Wang! What's with the pictures? It's a parking lot!"

The BBC is hardly a credible source, they are a mouthpiece for the EU and the labor party. Al Jazeera is funded by the Qatari government so I would take both with a grain of salt but Al Jazeera is good for Middle Eastern news.

There was.

But the folks who dug more deeply into the story soon realized it was just more of China being China.

For example: The amount of Cement (powder) necessary to build 3GD had to be inflated by threefold because the domestic Chinese quality assurance was so bad that their hydraulic cement was terrible.

This was true of Steel as well.

Poor inspection in and at and of the jobsite, workers’ safety was the enemy not a goal.
