The Jeff was underrated.

This thread has now made it overrated.

I live in Jefferson Terrace. It's a great stop on the way home from work and harkins back to a forgotten time.

God bless the Jefferson.

Also, let's not forget Shu Shu's. A newer dive shitty bar. You can drink beer on the porch and watch all the people exercise at REGYMEN in the Drusilla Shopping center. May see some yoga pants or 2.

I remember it used to be The Hawk’s Nest back in the 70’s, then later it was called Pepper’s. When I used to hang out there back in the early 90’s it was called Stabiler’s Tavern. It was the coolest little neighborhood bar. Small, quiet with classic rock radio playing in the background. Me and some of my buddies used to go over there on Friday nights before hitting the LSU bars. They had $1 fishbowls. It was never crowded and you could sit at the bar and just talk without having to yell. I miss that place and those days.

One of the greatest hole-in-the-wall bars of Baton Rouge was a place called Chris’ (in the warehouse district). It was know for its frozen fishbowls.

Here are some great bars of BR in the 80’s:

Chris’
Southdown’s (before expansion)
Patio Lounge
Jefferson Lounge
Cedarcrest Lounge
Fairway View
Vincent’s
Quarter Note (@ BRCC location)
Sammy’s (before expansion)
Chimes (before expansion)
Ivar’s (before expansion)
Forget name (now called Port Royal)
Caterie
Hawk’s Nest
Tony’s
Timeout Lounge
Uncle Earl’s (original in Southdown’s)

You Sir stand on the shoulders of giants. A shot and a beer at each is the making of a great weekend. To this intinerary I could only add The Buckhorn, The Pastime, The Fountainbleu and (of course) Phil Brady's.

I mention the Quarter Note, but I think I had a brain fart. What was at the location BRCC is located now, Quarter Note or Happy’s? And where was the one not located at BRCC?

That was the original Happy Note. Strongest drinks in BR. I don’t think they used pourers. You ordered a Crown and 7 and it was 5/6 Crown with maybe a splash of 7UP.

THAT was the Quarter Note. It was on Sherwood Forest. My first apartment was just around the corner from it. They had a free buffet every night and lingerie shows on Tuesdays.

There was a cool bar that looked like a castle, I think it was in Mall City. There were a couple of great dive bars on Dallas Drive too. Chelsea's in Cortana poured some stuff drinks too.

Chucks in Addis had great fishbowl beers too.
