I'm from Ponchatoula, moved to Hammond and currently live by the college. I would recommend Hammond over Ponchatoula for living, especially being young with no kids.

My sister took a job in that area, and initially wanted to live in St. Tammany, but then saw that the cost of living was considerably more.

She’s been in Ponchatoula for about 6 months and likes it.

No kids yet, by the time I need to cross that bridge, we plan on making the move to Covington/mandeville area

Then live wherever you want? Most convenient? How would you expect this board to have more information than you?

Problem with property crime in Belle Foret?
The biggest kerfuffle seems to be kids on golf carts.

The golf carts are sadly suffering because of the asshats from other neighborhoods on ATVs that some reason think its okay to drive like idiots on the back streets. But, I will take that small BS any day over actual crime.

You talking about the same Mandeville where the police officer was gunned down a few years ago at a traffic stop? That Mandeville?

Yeah that 1 incident in 2019, quite the reach there baw.

OP, I would encourage you to visit the Target’s & Walmart’s in Hammond vs the ones in Covington/Mandeville. That will tell you everything you need to know. I recently had to go to Hammond to pick up items at Target & WM and it’s night & day. You can just drive around the parking lots and look at the cars.
