I have a SIL that’s a nurse. Was exposed (worked with COVID) the other day. Now my parents can’t see their grandkids. Now my brother can’t see his parents. Now the babies could be exposed.
But hey, it’s all a hoax! Destroy the economy so Trump can be kicked out of office! Flu kills more people every year! (Although who’s to say they don’t fudge those numbers?).
Too many “what if’s” with this situation.
If you had a nurse wife, would you just carry on as usual? If she were exposed to it, how would you handle it? Just go about your daily life?
Probably not.

This is fear mongering. Let's not act like they have to send a telegram to speak with loved ones. Everyone is making some sort of sacrifice right now. Healthcare employees are at high risk. Some will be exposed, some will not, and they all should be taking as many precautions as necessary to prevent additional exposures.

I just thought that you were complaining of low paid nurses who were unionized. Seems ridiculous to me. Unions are a very well organized pyramid scheme under the guise of protecting workers.

So you think all personnel at those places should be issued haz-mat apparel to be safe while doing their job because that's the only way they would be fully protected, in theory, from catching anything? Point is, those people chose to work in places where sickness abounds in greater numbers than at an office or in your own home. I highly respect what they do, I just don't appreciate their overly complaining about the conditions.

If I am a healthcare provider and am exposed to COVID patients. I'm for damn sure not putting anyone in my household at risk. If that means that our lives have to be upended for a while and live separately until this thing is over, then so be it.

I can understand them being frustrated and wanting to vent
But I have noticed many doing so in a condescending and self righteous manner directed towards the general public which may be a great way to vent but it is not the best way to get the point across. I think some could use a break from social media right now as it isn't going to be an environment that eases their anxiety at the moment

Same could be said about those in danger of losing their jobs. They chose to work in expendable areas, right?

I have a source that says that unions don't really have employee rights as their motivation and their workers are typically less productive.

Yes. There is a chance that if this thing extends into May / June that I won't have a job. I should've became a nurse so that I could continue to go to work during a pandemic.

Here is the thing though...before this all happened those HCWs (healthcare workers) were strictly instructed to NEVER reuse PPE for patients in isolation. Like at some places a manager could write up their staff if this was an ongoing issue. There was always plenty of supply so this wasn't an issue. It was drilled into their heads over and over NEVER REUSE PPE because it put them and their patients more at risk.
Now...
In some places, they really and truly are running out of PPE and telling staff it's now ok to reuse some of it. The same thing they were told a few months ago could get them disciplined is now suddenly ok. This instills panic, and fear, and mistrust of their leadership. So I totally understand why nurses are upset and scared and venting on fb about it.
I think HCWs need to be very mindful and careful about what they post on social media though because you can't slam your hospital on fb and not possibly face consequences from it. In fact, you are told every year in training (at least at my hospital this is the case) you are NEVER to speak to media about anything going on at your hospital and can face disciplinary action if you do up to termination.

If I ever get the chance, I will. Although working as a gun for hire gets you there and then some wage wise, you still don't have the patient to nurse ratio protection, which is a huge deal as well.

Fear mongering would be me yelling from the rooftops and saying everyone is going to get the disease.
I’m telling you my part of a very tiny story and how it’s gotten close to me so far, and I’m trying to scare people? I’m not trying to scare people. The point of my post is that everyone seems to be completely cold to what these doctors and nurses are having to go through and the ripple effects that it’s causing.
Yet, none of you are having to deal with any of this and you’re posting from the comfort of wherever you’re at with all the answers you think you have. No experience whatsoever in a hospital, and you know how to handle all of this?
If it’s not that big of situation as you and a lot of posters make it out to be, then go about your day as normal.
And if you’re exposed for some reason, continue to go about your daily life as usual. Make sure you go hug your parents/family. Let them know you have the virus and make sure they know that none of this is a big deal whatsoever. It’s nothing but the flu. Everything will be fine as long as they open up the economy.
But wait, if your family has pre existing health conditions of any kind and they end up with this...be sure to blame it on that issue, not what’s going on around you.
