re: Those who grew up in the New Orleans area in the 70s-80s, Pits and Rawloods

Take it back, I heard of Pits. Girl I was friend-zoned with lived in Kenner, early 1980s, went to McGehee, but knew folks she called Pits.

Preppies were uptowners or uptown wanna-be, or at least dressed it. Button-downs and khakis (still wear to this day.)

People older than me, late 60s to late '70s had Pits and Frats. Girls would "take fruit loops" by cutting or tearing the loops off of guys' button-down shirts. Being from the West Bank, and, again, just hanging out with guys I went to h.s. with from the East Bank, they weren't all caught up in this.

This was me; but I have never heard of Pits or a Rawludes.

Is this the kinda thin uptowners might have said behind our backs because they were scared to say it face to face?

As a Pit yes but never heard of Rawloods.

I remember "Pits" for sure, but the other guys I think we called "Frats." This was mostly from hanging around with folks out Lakefront. Rawloods is new to me.

Pits where called that and hoods in the late 60's, Rawloods whatever that is sound like Chalmations for the area you're talking about.

Remember the hoods and frats from sixties and early seventies, but never heard of pits or rawloods. Grew up in mid city, lakeview, and Gentilly area. Do remember preps and loads from seventies, but it seemed like everyone was toking on the lakefront back then, and all car radios tuned in to WRNO.
