Those who grew up in the New Orleans area in the 70s-80s, Pits and Rawloods

Did you ever refer to anyone as a Pit or a Rawlood?

Pits were like the hair metal guys; teased up hair and eye makeup. Listened to Motley Crue.

Rawloods were kind of the motor head guys. Hey brahs. Usually wore jean jackets possibly with the sleeves cut off. Could normally be seen working on their El Camino in their front lawn.

Both groups would kick some preppy arse at the lakefront though.

Yup. They hung out at the fly too (butterfly on the river near Audubon Park). Camaro's, feathered hair, and bad music.

I had forgotten people were called that. The 80s Arcade thread made me think about that Lakeforest mall. I found this Arcticle about the mall, and this quote was in it:

quote:

As a result of that, I wound up being not really in a clique -- I think a lot of people in the East were like that," he continued. "You would have friends who were preppies. You had friends who were pits. Then you might have had friends who had a whole grill of gold in their mouth, and then you had skaters, the BMX freestylers, the punk-rock dudes. All these guys, they all came to the same place. We were all there. We all saw each other, and we all rubbed off on each other.

I think those words were an uptown NOLA / Old Metairie thing. I grew up uptown and I knew what you were talking about immediately.
