re: Those who grew up in the New Orleans area in the 70s-80s, Pits and Rawloods

I looked and it has been a couple of years since my last one. Metry of the 70s & 80s nostalgia thread later this evening.

Uptown/Old Met/Metairie checking in... Pits was a generalization to anyone NOT shopping at Perlis and having a pit-stache...most probably public school and lower income.

Pit, I believe, came to origin by the stuck-up uptown kids. Don't think any of my chalmette or deep kenner buddies knew the term. I'd say pit ground zero was fat-city or lower vets area. haha.

EDIT: and who remembers the A.Park Lagoon or those random high school levee keg parties by cooter browns? 92-95

In the 80’s, Pits and Preps were big in NOLA.

Pits wore black concert t-shirts (like Ratt, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden), Black jeans, and wore their hair like metal guys (long).

Preps wore Izod and Polo shirts, Swatch watches, and designer jeans. Hair was short and combed.

Most guys sort-of fell into one of these 2 groups.

I’ve never heard of a ‘Rawlood’.

Lived in Bellemede subdivision between 1979-1987. Good times.
