Northwest San Antonio (Northside ISD) and the northeastern suburbs (Schertz, Live Oak, Cibolo) are great. Booming area with relatively affordable housing (for now), growing sports programs, and good outdoor activities (close to Hill Country).

I second north side ISD. There are also some good charter schools in San Antonio now, so the school district is less of a concern if you can get your kids in to those schools.

Northeast also has some good schools, Churchill, Reagan, and Johnson being the best.

My brother lives there and can’t agree more. Awesome area. I also lived on the west side of SA for about a year. That was years ago but we go see my brother and I love the area. If you are looking for something more rural - look west of SA. Uvalde has a bit of stigma right now but the area west of SA is beautiful IMO.

If you're worried about cost scratch Austin off your list.

OP, grew up in LC and moved to TX and never looked back.

Im in DFW but I agree with people that are saying NW San Antonio and Comal County. Some great areas up there around Canyon lake and anywhere off 281.

Spring Branch has great schools.

Also, someone mentioned San Angelo, which is funny because I tell my wife It reminds me of Lake Charles. Almost the same size but much drier, and very close to great hunting if thats your thing.

Check out Marble Falls, decent economy, good demographics, lakes, hill country, and reasonable access to both Austin ~1hr and San Antonio - 1 1/2hr

Believe it or not but moving from Lake Charles to Beaumont is actually a downgrade. The whole Golden Triangle is crap.

agreed, Beaumont is complete crap. all of extreme SE texas sucks

If looking around Houston

The Clear Lake area doesn't get enough love here on TD.com IMO

Sugar Land is a nice clean city and his son can catch "yellow fever" there when he gets old enough to date

yea clear lake, league city, friendswood area are nice as hell.

OP, lots and lots of suburbs for houston & dallas are awesome. I would say the Northern Suburbs of Dallas are best imo.

SA is awesome as is the hill country, about an hour from SA.

Austin is awesome

but what did you mean by growing up around an awesome sports program? like HS or college or pro? What sport?

What about Brenham? Isn't it home to bluebell ice cream. Seems like an easy sell to me.

If location isn’t a concern I always thought El Paso was cool

It’s very cool. I didn’t know anything about it until I absorbed it as part of my work territory five years ago. I love going there.

Very nice people and pretty terrain. The area around UTEP is very nice. I think it’s just guilty by association by being next to Juárez

Might be hard with him not wanting anything "overly pricey". I guess it depends on was he considers that to be, latest average Mckinney home is around $600,000.

Living in College Station would be insufferable. Being surrounded by aggies is not what I would find to be a peaceful life. The cult is real.

A couple of friends of ours that grew up in areas of west Texas but moved away because of job transfers are moving back to Texas within the next 6 months.
They could have pretty well chosen anywhere in the state but both their families chose Brownwood. It’s about middle of the state as you can get and they say it’s a nice area, homes being built in multiple areas and decent prices according to their estimates. It has about 20,000 residents, a nice lake, Lake Brownwood recreation area, Howard Payne University, a small regional airport, 4A size high school. It’s within a 2-3 hr drive from Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Abilene, Waco and Lubbock so kids could have exposure to multiple good colleges and still be within decent driving distance to visit parents on weekends.
