This is a good one.

Used to hate the taste of coffee and would just knock back a coke (drink) if I need a boost in the morning. Now, I actually enjoy my morning coffee and will often drink one even if I don't need it.

Also thought driving more than a few hours to go on vacation was miserable and took away from the relaxing point of the vacation. So far have driven straight through to Disney & Gatlinburg twice each from NOLA without a 2nd thought.

Conservatism. I used to think that right wing conservatives were out to get me and keep me from having any fun, like bad novel characters, because TV, movies and music told me so when I was younger.

Yep. I think a part of it also is that when you’re from the south and surrounded by right wing folks, it can tarnish your view. I turned hard away from being a right winger when I was young because the people in my life who were racist or uneducated or whatever all happened to vote that way. Obama first got elected during my first year of college and I remember the way people around here reacted.. and at 18 when you’re experiencing college for the first time, it’s a recipe for becoming a leftist.

The “bad apples” in the Republican Party make us look absolutely terrible. Lol.

I am here with you. I believed in the Bush Doctrine. Now I know it was a colossal waste of time and resources. Ron Paul had this right. I have done a complete "180" on this.

When I lived in Hollywood, I was a wine snob. Now I live in Florida, and people drink scotch, bourbon, and beer. The ones that do order wine just get the house selection. No one cares about the winery or the wine maker or the direction of the hillside or the blend or the hints of whatever.

Yeah, my sister was like that when she was 18 until she moved into a bad neighborhood and got chased into her apartment every night.

That's literally not true (US News fact check.)

(At least the forced vaccination part. It does look like Australia has quarantine sites for Australians returning from international travel.)

I used to idolize the FBI and CIA growing up. Now, I wish they’d all go sit on a broomstick.

I used to think Ronald Reagan was one of our greatest president, but now I realize he was one of our worst.

His "government is the problem, not the solution" has had catastrophic effects, especially at the local and state levels. It has lead to a dearth in competence across multiple departments and agencies, again especially at the state and local levels. One big reason the Covid response has been so full of mixed messages and incompetence is the lack of quality talent at state health departments across the country, and their lack of coordination with the CDC. Have you taken a look at the IRS in recent years? Ever tried calling them with an issue in recent years? The level of service is atrocious, and one big reason is their funding has been cut, which has prevented them from attracting quality talent. This isn't an argument for big government, but it is an argument for competent government, and we don't have much of that these days. One big reason we don't have that is that mantra Reagan popularized.

And for all the talk of small government from conservatives, he really began the expansion of power of the executive branch, though he had a lot of help from the legislative branch. One big reason we just spent 20 nearly fruitless years in Afghanistan is Congress ceding so much power to the executive branch, and that really ramped up in the 80's when we were in an arms race with the Soviet Union. He's not solely to blame for that, but he did little to stem the tide.

That the US Government is bureaucratic, but basically for freedom and goodness.
