This shows your complete lack of understanding of drug use. Beliefs like these are how we got into this giant mess to begin with

You mean LBJ, right?

These two options are not mutually exclusive. I believe both of these "Wars" (on poverty and on drugs) need to end.

Ah, the classic “people that do drugs are bad people” line. As if an individual doing drugs is somehow immoral in itself.

You don’t think people that have used or are currently using drugs are looking for jobs? What kind of bubble do you live in?

Drug charges only accounted for 20% of these incarcerations. The rest were mostly violent crime and property offenses.

The rise in crime actually started in the 60s. The rise in prison population was a delayed response to that.

I think it's a war backed by the Pharmaceutical powers.

On the Deep Web there is a free enterprise systems that brings buyers and sellers together. No Street Dealers,no,Gangs,No Organized Crime,No Doctors, and no Pharmacies.

There is quality control.

They must destroy this because it bucks their systems(takes money from them).

No doubt. I hire a good bit of ex-cons. I was talking with one the other day, and he was complaining that his 14 year old son can't stay out of trouble. He blames himself as he wasn't in the kid's life to teach him right from wrong until a year ago because he did mandatory 10 years for growing a couple weed plants within 1000 ft of a school. How fricked is that? The man was growing a plant and had his life and his kid's life ruined because of some BS drug laws.

You think drug dealers are looking for 9 to 5 jobs and just can’t find them and that explains their behavior? Pot meet kettle

That’s productive. For the record I think weed should have never been illegal to begin with. I think most people would agree with legal weed. I also don’t buy the idea that the prison population rose simply because of the war on drugs.

I think where most people start to find disagreements are over the issues of hard drugs.

Sorry if that is an unreasonable position

I imagine much of the violent crime and property offenses can be correlated back to the drug trade.

Inflection point right there in 1980. Also, I think some of the drop in violent crime can be credited to the results of Roe v. Wade.

I also think those graphs need drug offense on them as well.

Edit: Well looky here....

what gets a father incarcerated for drugs? And spare me your tale of woe about how you were unfairly incarcerated for the one pill you had in your pocket. Either your prior record factored into your sentence or you had the worst public defender of all time.

if the latter is accurate, its the exception not the rule.

We can argue the merits of legalizing drugs all day long. I'm not opposed to it actually. But pretending legalization is going to magically clear up all of societies problems or is some panacea is silly.

It won't, but it is a one part of the puzzle that needs to be discussed if we are to have actual, "honest discussions" that lead to change for everyone.

Out of 2.2 million prisoners there are around 47,000 serving time for possession.

Try again, possession of drugs isn’t causing mass incarceration.

A lot of those serving for possession also may have pleabargained down to that charge for sentencing.

Now, I do believe two things would help. If we had better mental health and subtance abuse treatment and If we started imprisoning the progressives who steal and misspend money meant to educate at-risk children.

This is one issue where BLM and many conservatives actually find common ground so why not work together to bring about fundamental change on this issue.
