Rome was ok, went there in 1995. It was interesting to see and explore but one time was enough for me.

It is dirty. I'd rather go about 15 other places in France before Paris. Anywhere on the Med coast or in the Alps.

I just got back from Rome and I agree it’s cool to see once or twice but it’s not a repeat type location. Glad I did Pompeii, etc as day trips since I probably won’t go back. I loved Florence and will definitely go back there at some point in the future.

I’ve been to Rome a few times. Great place, I’d happily go back. Maybe you weren’t happy because you went to a crappy restaurant that microwaved your Beefaroni and stuck a miniature Italian flag in it.

We go to the Asheville area 2-3 times/year. Love it. Rent a cabin 10-15 minutes away from Biltmore, contribute to global warming by burning wood in the fireplace, and drink bourbon. Don’t really spend time in downtown Asheville itself. Buy a few groceries at Ingels, get some bbq from one particular place a couple miles from the cabin, and hit the German restaurant in Black Mountain.

What a strange addition...

Asheville is great, but not sure how it's even on the list with Rome.

If you loved Florence you’ll love Venice too. Sitting in cafes and high end restaurants in the square or by the bay are incredible. Amalfi is also legit, as is Sicily

If you can't appreciate Rome you suck. The city of Asheville is whatever but the surrounding areas are beautiful.

Secondly, if you visited Rome and don’t have a desire to go back, you might live in a trailer.

My kid went there for their school’s senior trip and he said it was fine but it’s the only part of Italy he doesn’t want to go back to. The History/museums was amazing but the city itself he could have taken or left.

He enjoyed, Florence, Verona, and Milan much more.

If you cant find happiness when you're at home you probably wont fix it by traveling.

This guy, on the other hand, gets it.

Rome is possibly the greatest city in the world if you appreciate history. That’s generally why people go there.

What's to like about Rome other than the early church history, remnants of the dominant world power, Renaissance art, ancient and developing architecture, beautiful women, and (if you know where to look) fantastic food.
I see your point. I prefer Vilnius, Riga, and Donetsk myself.

I thoroughly enjoyed Rome, but I’m a bit of a history nut so it makes sense. Walking around the city and nearly everywhere you go, they’re excavating something else and discovering things never seen or known of before right next to the sidewalk. Watching them clean things while delicately excavating was mesmerizing to me. The food was good too, as long as you ate at a smaller restaurant instead of the bigger touristy ones. The fact that you drink wine everywhere you go helped, too .
