The unlocked door certainly made it far easier than it should have been, but he could have also just shot his way into the main entrance like the Sandy Hook shooter if it came to that.

Unfortunately I think we are going to start having to wrap the schools around with fences and arm guard check in at the gate.

No one gives a damn about their kids is the first problem.

They’d rather let their kid sit in front of TV or a cell phone all day and can’t be bothered to do ANYTHING with them or spend quality time to teach them anything. The amount of kids who can’t cook a simple fried egg or anything really is staggering.

The fact is that this shite wont stop. You can’t fix the root of the problem because the root is evil. So you might as well lock the fricking doors.

Exactly right!!

That's an assumption. Leaving the door open for the killer to get in is a fact.

Dear OP - This is a school, not a bio lab or fortress.

How about we blame the frickstick that did it. Then blame his parents. Then blame police for being too fat and incompetent to help.

I'm not blaming a teacher for not treating every day like they are about to be attacked.

Of course. Just pointing out that he was going to commit violence at that school on Tuesday. The unlocked door is not the difference between shooting and no shooting.

The cowardice and/or unbelievable stupidity of law enforcement deserves more blame than a mistake IMO.

Ok y’all just keep leaving doors unlocked and deal with the shitty society that is America now. You may can raise your family right, but most of these people out here are fricked and I’d rather have a locked door and a Glock on my hip.

This but there's plenty of blame to go around. But most importantly let's use blame to get shite fixed where we can. There's a lot that can be done.

Arming teachers and administrators (those who want to)
Locking the fricking door and challenging anyone who comes in.
Identifying insanity quicker and getting help for them.
Enforce the laws on the books.

Honestly, I think our laws on the gun control bit suffice. It's not as easy as people think it is to go out and buy a deadly weapon. There are checks already in place.

That demands doors be shut when not in use. That was the first domino to fall. She didn't pull the trigger but she did leave the option for a way for the trigger man to make it accessible for the trigger man to do an unpardonable deed.

No. If we are serious about putting a dent in stopping these types of situations the only way to go about it that’s not illegal is arming teaches. A certain % of teachers in every school need to be probably trained and conceal carry handguns. No one should know which teachers are armed.

Back when I worked in an office all exterior doors were locked except for the main entrance for customers. I don't understand the whole "turn the school into a prison" thing when most businesses are secured in the same way.

That said, I don't blame the teacher. Horrible, horrible timing that evil was lurking at that exact moment. A reminder that we all need to be ever vigilant because there are bad people out there.

If the policies and procedures stated that the door shall remain locked, then that is a failure on the teacher. I’m not blaming her but it is likely a contributing factor to this event. Policies and procedures only work if they are followed.

but these same teachers lock their car doors at Walmart parking lots. So why the frick shouldn’t we lock the school doors?

Five years ago as I drove into Starbucks a young woman pulled up next to the front door and got out of her new Mazda Miata convertible. She had the top down. After getting out of the car she turned and pressed her key locking the car doors.
And, yes, she had blonde hair.

Don’t downvote this. The effin door is supposed to be locked. A teacher propping it open is culpable. Period. He/she violated district policy. This IS a fireable offense.

If we keep letting bureaucrats and others off the hook for an oversight, then we’ll continue to have the carnage we’re seeing.

Stop making excuses for these people who facilitated these types of heinous acts. Period.

If you don’t like it, get off this board. I don’t want you here anymore because you don’t matter to me.
