The real appeal of an online article is the reader comment section

Had someone recently say that the value is most articles is the posted feedback from readers. Agree or disagree?
I will admit to sometimes skimming an article and jumping to the comments, and also being surprised when an article doesn’t have a comment section these days.

I mean if you're wanting to gauge just down dumb people in this country are, sure. I avoid the comments like the plague.

Agree. It gets more clicks today way when people return to the same article multiple times to read the comments.

Reaction in comments provides accountability for writers and creators. Some things will be horribly inaccurate and readers will point that out and devalue the whole article. But if you turn the comment section off, there’s no accountability. Hence why bad articles and videos will turn off comments

A lot of sites are getting rid of their comment sections because they don't want to hear the truth about their garbage articles
ESPN got rid of their comments because they were wading too deep into politics and would get called out in the comments every time. You'd have to scroll far far down to find a comment agreeing with the premise of the article.
Local news sites and newspapers also going the same route.
