When I hear the middle ages, I think about sleeping on straw and hay. That sucks.

People stank, the cities stank, the countryside stank. It was a smelly time to be alive. They sucked.

Pretty much any time without air conditioning really sucked.

The stank only was improved upon around 100 years ago too ya know. If I remember correctly, Listerine was the first mouthwash to consider "fresh breath" as a thing.

Also, they had slaves. Being a white dude would have probably been pretty sweet back then.

Pretty sure there was plenty of white slavery going on in the Middle Ages

It's hilarious to me how they called the mongols barbarians and savages meanwhile they're burning people alive and dismembering people for not having the same beliefs as there's

History is written by the victors.
Always has been, always will be.

The Mongols were no better btw

Those times "suck" in comparison to today especially those reading about it in a first world nation. History is not judged by the times we live but the events they occurred in.

Think about how we will be viewed a few centuries from now. The same things will most likely be spoken of us.

Some of us can't stand five minutes without A/C or bad breath.

It really isn't serious history unless the "historian" has a go at the Church. St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Francis, St. Bonaventure, St. Bernard of Clairvaux and many other stong intellectuals lived in that same "depraved" Church.
I can't plow through Aquinas...history has MANY sides, not just the ones college history teachers present.

Evil will be with us until the end of the age.

IDK. looks to me like it would have been a pretty sweet gig to be a priest back in the day. People pay you to tell them their sins are forgiven, that they're going to heaven. All while your banging whores in the backroom of the church.

pretty much the same today except they've progressed to altar boys

How about some suggested reading? Something for the lay person not a college textbook.
