Haven’t heard about this. But if folks are driving to stock up on water, I hope stores will limit them so they don’t buy it all up from those living where they are driving to. Their parish needs to provide their water.

There are a number of plans in play for how to fix / deal with this. One of which is, FEMA will get involved and start delivering water from the hurricane stocks if needed.

Let's just hope the rest of hurricane season is quiet...

I wouldn’t worry about this. When NOLA metro residents see there’s no water on their grocery shelves, they’ll each just grab a half dozen cases of TP and head home.

All of the local news stations started telling people to stock up on water last night and today it looks like a hurricane and pandemic had a baby. People have lost their minds.
Better call The Guard down to control those shoppers. Or get the Cajun Navy to bring water from other areas and sell it for higher prices than normal. They're volunteers, but they have to make a living too.

I haven’t seen anything on here about a salt wedge in the Mississippi on here. What are the alarmist saying about saltwater in the river?

I work in emergency management. Been on calls about it for the last two days. Governor will have a press conference about it tomorrow I'm told.

They're "monitoring the situation", if that makes you feel any better!

Knowing the people in charge, it doesn't exactly fill me with confidence

It's not like anyone drinks the water there anyways. We never did. Tastes like arse and chloromine.

Yes, indeed. And maybe milk, bread and eggs, also.

The river is at a near record low. A salt water wedge (salt water is denser than fresh water) moves up the river during low water events. This has happened multiple times over the years. The USACE builds a "dam" with dredged material across the river bottom in Plaquemines Parish to stop the salt water flow. This happened this year over a month ago. The municipal water intakes are deeper (not sure what depth) in the river and are susceptible to salt water contamination. It would really be some shite if a plant or plants cooling water or process water was contaminated. So the Corps builds their "dam".

That’s just your opinion man.

Are they really getting drinking water out of the Mississippi? If that's the case salt is the least of their worries.

Where does the water from your toilet go?
