How the hell did it get all the way up to Plaquemine?

I think he means Plaquemines as in the Parish

The river is at a near record low. A salt water wedge (salt water is denser than fresh water) moves up the river during low water events. This has happened multiple times over the years. The USACE builds a "dam" with dredged material across the river bottom in Plaquemines Parish to stop the salt water flow. This happened this year over a month ago.
The municipal water intakes are deeper (not sure what depth) in the river and are susceptible to salt water contamination. It would really be some shite if a plant or plants cooling water or process water was contaminated. So the Corps builds their "dam".

I remember the last time the big ditch was at a record low ... lots of old paddle steamers and barges were discovered in the mudd from St Louie to NOLA.
That had to be around '88 or so.

The current river level in approximately 2.5' at the Carrollton Gage. I believe the record low is about 1.2' to 1.4'. So we definitely have low water, which makes the salt water wedge an issue. But it's not the first time it's happened, and it won't be the last.

So what you're saying is, I should... 1) rent a trailer 2) buy out all the water at Sam's and Costco 3) ???? 4) Profit
I mean you could, but never underestimate the absurdity of local da’s and law enforcement. Remember when they were arresting people that had stocked up on masks and hand sanitizer early in the pandemic and were trying to sell it?

In other news, people are retarded.

So Hank was right? It really is the end of time and the Mississippi River is a going dry.
Posted on 9/20/23 at 11:48 pm to MightyYat
Are they really getting drinking water out of the Mississippi? If that's the case salt is the least of their worries.

No it’s not the first time and definitely not the last…. this is the local news media’s new Katrina and pandemic. They talk about it everyday like we’re all going to die from a salt water wedge coming up the river.
Fox 8 interviewed this little old black lady in the grocery store and they convinced her that this is bad. At the end of her interview they had her saying, “ I’m going to buy all the water I can.”
The news today sucks, they want nothing more but to be BS alarmist.
It was never a story when the wedge thing happen before, now’s it’s a catastrophe.
Screw the media, they’re probably responsible for three quarters of our problems today, even down to the local level.
My mother called me before Ida hit in hysterics, I told her to quit watching the damn news.

All of the local news stations started telling people to stock up on water last night and today it looks like a hurricane and pandemic had a baby. People have lost their minds.
This is what happens when people live on news headlines. I dont understand it

What the hell is “fear porn?”
Remember at the beginning of the Chinese Flu farce when the news was showing pictures of ChiComs in hazmat suits picking up dead bodies off the streets of Wuhan who had just "literally dropped dead with no warning"? You know, the kind of pictures that only liberal white women and Facebook chatterboxes could fall for? That's fear porn.

Slidell gets their drinking water from the Mississippi River?
Gross. Wherever Slidell is, take me off the invite list.

I’m on my 3rd hot water heater in Buras in less than a year. It corrodes everything and they still send me a GDMF water bill. Just got word Water and Ice distribution closed on weekends. The locals are resilient.
