Honestly I was slow to backpacks and still carry a briefcase 95% of the time for work. But it's extremely common to see professionals (and I don't just mean traveling IT guys) carrying them.

It's sort of like Apple Watches to me. At first they looked strange in true professional environments, but it ceases to look out of place when they're widely adopted.

Backpacks are gay. Unless you're in junior high. I go to these meeting with Dbags coming in with backpacks like they're Mormons. I get that they're practical and handsfree but they're just flat out gay.

You know fanny packs are practical too. Doesn't make them any less gay.

Dude coming in hot to a meeting with a backpack immediately gets judged as a loser wannabe. Most of these back packer business suit guys are poseurs. Backpacks are now part of the uniform for the man and fascist corporate types.

You really think you're gonna see Don Draper rocking a JanSport on Mad Men. They could do another 6 seasons and even he wouldn't stoop that low.

To the adults of the OT, just say no to backpacks. It is a terrible fad. 20 years from now you're gonna be looking back and wondering what you were thinking like The Rock does when he looks at that pic of himself in acidwash jeans with that gay leather fanny pack.

Whay a word topic to have a manifesto on, carrying a fricking backpack

I'm sure all you need is your tool bag, huh tough guy?

I have been wondering what is up with most of the millennials in my office building rocking backpacks

For as much shite as Millennials catch, and rightfully so, in a lot of ways they're much more practical than previous generations who felt tied to traditions and obligated to be uncomfortable and put on a show for everybody.

Or maybe they work?

Yeah, I'm not wearing a backpack if I have on a suit or even sports coat. That's just goofy and borderline trashy.

many executives in o&g and healthcare that i've worked with do this.

I don't want this thread to get over the top, but I was under the impression some things were self explanatory.

It sounds like the world is passing you by as your mind and body fails you and it hurts your soul that you're being forgotten as you creep closer to your expiration. The walls are closing in on you and the world outside is becoming more and more unrecognizable to the one in your mind that is long gone and never coming back.

See you on the other side.

I did too, mostly because I imagined OP sitting on the couch at a small gathering with his backpack on just staring at each person with shifty eyes for an awkward amount of time while the wheels turned in his head.

"Frank..... FRANK! Helllooooo I asked you a question... Wait, why are you measuring all my lamp cords?"

"Uh, sorry, I was trying to figure out how quickly I could grab that lamp behind you, choke you with the cord, and smash it through the window to make my escape. What were you saying?"

I travel a hell of a lot. Mostly one night trips. I use a backpack to carry my clothes and work laptop. Come at me bro!

Maybe it's for a laptop. For some clients I have a computer bag that is a backpack.

In my personal time, sometimes I bring a laptop to a coffee shop in a backpack to work on stuff.

This is stupid. Plenty of non-trashy people in corporate finance wear backpacks with suits and sport coats.

That looks like shite. Hope you didn't get one for your significant other.
