In general, gambling is for losers.
But, in general, people should be allowed to be losers and do what they want to do.

How the frick does the TABC have the authority to regulate money laundering and gambling?
Posted on 3/14/26 at 11:06 am to el duderino III
And if they are claiming money laundering then why is the San Antonio location still allowed to operate.
Posted on 3/14/26 at 11:19 am to LSUSUPERSTAR
Yeah something doesn't pass the smell test with this. Sounds like TABC is on some power trip against the room

You want to lose your house betting on the color of your weather man's tie on the news tonight? No problem.
You want to get together for a game of cards with consenting adults without the state's consent? Straight to jail!

Supposedly this place had just added a restaurant or something that was attached. I’m wondering if it has something to do with that.

Gotta love the bottom feeders. I made a statement of fact. Most laws reflect moral values to some extent. If you can't understand that, you should be at "tigerdroppings for little kids" where chicken teaches you what LSU colors are and to stay away from the big green puppies in the creek.

So stupid Texas doesn’t have casinos
It’s 2026.
If people wanna play some cards let them.
All that money of Texas gamblers going to Choctaw and Winstar and then the Louisiana casinos too. It’s so stupid to let all that money leave the state

This is so stupid on so many levels.
If people want to get together and play poker, they should be allowed to without fear of the Brown Shirts busting down the door. How TF is this still illegal? Especially when you can do it on your laptop in most states.
“Money laundering “ is anything the Feds deem it is. It’s such a loose term that they use to get just about anybody. It purposely has a bad connotation so the ignorant public immediately thinks the gumment has the moral high ground and the accused must be John Gotti. Most people commit “money laundering” every day whether they know it or not.
The ONLY reason our gumment makes it illegal is the obvious..they don’t get their cut. They are the real organized crime, the corrupt criminals who love to destroy the lives of the little guy while connected politicians get away with everything including literal murder. They’re way worse than the Mafia ever could hope to be.

The owners/ managers were probably accused of skimming the pots The card clubs in Louisiana prior to the casinos shutting them down charged a membership fee but could not take money from the pot.

I can assure you they were not.
Doug Polk is far too famous with way too large of a brand to do that.
If anything, some players were using the club to launder money without the club realizing it, because you can move large amounts of cash in one of these clubs without drawing too much attention.

The Lodge and other poker rooms dont take a rake. They make money on daily/weekly/monthly/yearly membership fees and an hourly rate ranging from $10 to $14. I live in DFW and play at two different poker rooms. The good ones all have security and are well lit. Pushing people to go back to underground poker rooms will increase crime and lower taxable money.

State sanctioned gambling is a negative for society. Partly because it makes credit and collection easier. But mainly because of addicts with families who end up on the state’s dole. Perfectly reasonable to legislate.
Nobody can stop anyone from gambling. Just do it outside the law where it is a little less attractive and all remedies are personal.

Agreed.

That is a terrible take. Alcohol is overall net negative, but it is still allowed. People have all kinds of addictions, such as food, social media, video games yet we allow people to over indulge in those.
Your view is that more people should illegally gamble underground which causes an increase in crime. Once again, terrible take.

Pick your poison.
Assuming legalized gambling has increased the amount wagered, then that is more money coming out of family budgets.
Either way, the state taking a side.

Yeah, there is a bunch of conclusion jumping in this thread. I am not saying it's impossible, but I would be very surprised to learn Doug Polk was doing/allowing shady shite at The Lodge.
Posted on 3/14/26 at 6:05 pm to AgCoug
To be fair Doug, Brad and Andrew have their own brands and reputation to be doing something shady. Hell, they share everything weekly on YouTube. They are the next generation of of Daniel Negranu (sp?), Hellmuth and others from the early 2000’s. I doubt they knowingly did anything wrong, but if some of the high stakes players involved on their weekly shows did; I wouldn’t be surprised if.

Maybe managers. The owners don't need to do that, and honestly if you've consumed their content, none of them seem like the type.
They do have some shady arse regulars though
