They weren't even the highest grossing movie studio last year. What monopoly do they have?

Seems like they own a lot in the media/entertainment world:

ABC
ESPN
Hulu
Fox
Marvel
Lucas films

That’s more of a monopoly than Apple imo. Yeah they’ve struggled in recent years bc they’ve gone full retard with the woke shite but they’re still the biggest in that industry.

It’s the App Store monopoly that I have a problem with, not the hardware production.

They can put a company out of business just by kicking them out of the App Store. This causes companies like Facebook and X to be at a disadvantage.

Apple is the best for those in the medical world, they have numerous useful apps.I accessed them daily in my ICU days.

They are by far the best for the blind. My sil is blind, they have an app that she can scan paper bills to determine denomination. Before she had to have a trusted friend or family go through her paper money with her.Apple has made her life easier in many ways.

I agree.

I will not fault apple for their revolutionary setup. It is great. I just like the freedom Android gives me more. Someone else may prefer apple or some other brand. No biggie

There is a market share threshold that is significantly less than 100pct. The gov't tried to break up General Motors in the 1950's when they had something like 60pct.

There are also other tripwires for monopoly. This probably has some thing to do with the app store and related issues of gatekeeping or revenues "taxed" by apple.

How is making your products work together seamlessly a violation of anti-trust? Are they saying the company simply has too much American market share?

There is a difference between working together seamlessly and preventing other companies from interfacing at all. For example, all apps have to be vetted by Apple and sold throug the app store. If they don't like you or your app, they can slow-walk the approval and/or deny approval.

Related, this was how Apple and Google stuck a knife in Trump's back. When Twitter (pre-musk) cracked down on pro-trump content and people went to Parler, Parler was then banned as "anti democratic" by the app stores.

Those are diversified segments of the business (kind of, you don't really know what you're talking about), that outside of ESPN probably don't even have a majority of marketshare in their area let alone dominate it enough to be considered a monopoly.

Your issue seems to be that Disney is a conglomerate, which is fine, it's reasonable to not like that about them. But they're not close to being a monopoly on anything. Except maybe misdirected butthurt.

Every apple OS has had an NSA backdoor since the 90s.

Justice Department must have confused Apple for Tesla? Apple is one of the "good" guys for Democrats.

Apple understands privacy. Google doesn’t. It’s an easy choice for me.

I'm actually surprised the justice department is going after Apple. Did they recently donate to the GOP or tell Soros to F off or something?

In the US it's about 60/40 iOS/Android

I suspect one of the issues that will pop up here is that market share by OS is not the same as market share by smartphone manufacturer, since there are multiple manufactures making Android phones. Samsung is obviously the biggest, but they have competition.

When you look at it by manufacturer it makes the case for an Apple monopoly in the US look quite a bit stronger, as instead of 60/40 it becomes more like 60/20/10/others. (Depending on the source you use, since market share data can be somewhat iffy from different sources.)

That said, I’m kind of shocked that the DOJ is actually pursuing an antitrust suit against big tech in this day and age. The political and legal muscle behind big tech firms is a LOT stronger than it was 20 years ago when they went after Microsoft.

This is the same for me. I hate apple products and their limited user interface, but this seems ridiculous.

That reads like it's the ecosystem they are targeting, not just the phones.
