Helicopters flying over campus is one of the quintessential pieces of the Saturday atmosphere.

As a licensed drone pilot, this scared the crap out of me!! This is not supposed to happen. It is ALWAYS drilled into you that manned aircraft have a 'holy right-of-way,' and unmanned systems must give way. With most private companies that provide aerial unmanned services, it is required to have a visual observer in contact with the drone controller to see developing situations like this and help avoid them. I don't think the FAA requires it, but private companies usually do. I actually rared back in my chair when that chopper flew across! I ran across this same scenario many times when doing aerials for a law enforcement or fire funeral. AAn honor flight of helicopters or planes would do a very low pass during the outdoor services, and the drone folks would put their aircraft on the ground until those aircraft had gone. This incident was WAAAY too close!!

Maybe I don't understand the bubble for a no fly zone on GameDay. I feel quite confident I've seen helicopters buzzing at UK games, usually probably transporting patients to UK hospital, Central Baptist, or St Joseph which are all right there.

I’m tickled at all the “who cares if the helicopter flies over a crowd of thousands of people” this week where last week we had everyone saying there ain’t no way they’re ever getting in a helicopter because they’re too dangerous
