Updates as of...?

Last I heard, place was still under. That area will be under until tomorrow noon at the earliest.

Didn't know if water was coming or going. Is that area reachable coming from Sullivan?

My house sits up against Ward Creek. The water levels have been going down, and the ~10ft gulley only has a couple of feet of water in it, but does anyone know if the backwater flooding is supposed to affect Ward Creek anymore?

Oh, we don't need them. And apparently they don't give a frick about us anyway so frick them. We'll get our pirogues and black iron pots and take care of this shite without any of their goddamn help.

Just pisses me off.

Not sure on the specific flow of water, sounds like it is going down close to there, slowly.

The only way into central is via 64 and Zachary back way

The Great Flood of 2016: Backflow Flooding Occuring (8/14/16)
Friends just evacuated from Westhaven burbank/bluebonnet area. Houses are flooded in there. He said it's still rising a considerable amount and it's all from the drainage system not from the bayou that run along the backside of the neighborhood.

If Westhaven is flooding, that is bad - that indicates that, as Impotent saw the first glimpses of with water starting to come onto the road further down from Siegen/Highland, the swamp is filling to capacity. Things should happen very fast now as the Amite is cresting and Bayou Manchac is rising.

That X is where this flooding is happening. because it is coming from the drainage system and because there has been no new rain, it is clear that this is backwater flooding.

Have freinds that live here and it is high and dry. It is above highland road and the creek that is behind it would have to crest over the railroad tracks to get to that area. Pretty unlikely.

yeah. hearing the same thing. that area should be okay.

Anyone have any pics from Azalea Lakes? Saw a drone video about an hour ago and the only houses in danger were the ones on the lake.

I checked CNN's website earlier and the only thing I saw on there was a single link towards the bottom of the page with a quote from JBE. That really irked me. People are dying, thousands are now without homes and in shelters. We are seeing the worst of mother nature and the very best of humanity in this situation, and there is ZERO national coverage. It's really fricked up, imo.

If we expected them to care, we wouldn't be as strong as we are in these situations. This state comes together and does it better than any other state

Looks like the area between Santa Maria and Manchac place is accessible by boat.

Something I now notice - the swamp is not as high capacity as we thought before. Manchac Road acts as a levee, meaning that really only 1/3 of it is filling up. In this map that they drew up, a 100 year flood is supposed to fill it to capacity and continue on backwater. Will this actually happen? Who knows. These maps were drawn a long time ago and already this flood has flooded areas that are white and not flooded areas that are blue. But I would act under the assumption that if you are in blue, you will flood.

The flood maps are bounded by parish. If you click on the Iberville parish map it shows that the rest of the swamp is also a flood zone. It's actually significantly lower elevation than the EBR portion too. Does that change your opinion?

This is not true. The map just isnt showing the flood areas in iberville and acension parish. Look those up. The swamp is waaayyy bigger than you think

cnn will prioritize this event if people get shot up by the police, justified or not.

this is nowhere near the top of their priority levels, and will never be.

west virginia experienced something similar recently that did not get much play by them.

Ah damn, good catch. I didn't notice that they were bounded and I am using the interactive map tool.

Maybe it does have capacity then, I can't be sure, I don't know the area. Someone else who has been in the swamps said he doesn't think they can hold that much water. We'll see... in the end, the engineers knew about this area when they drew the maps.
