The parts of Spanish Lake I have been through (western edges by Hunt) only have a small built up mound from this canal that surrounds the property. It is a huge area though, but as far as holding depth, it won't. Hwy 30 and the railroad tracks would have to stop that water if it made it that far

What about the Springlake neighborhood off of Bluebonnet extension?

Springlake is dry. The only water around was a little on bluebonnet in front of Albertsons

Bayou Fountain is in my backyard and I am still here (top of Gardere area). Things still look unchanged since earlier today. Will be patiently waiting for the backflow.

Well, please keep us updated! If my area floods, it's probably because your area is flooding too.

Just got word from from a friend that just checked the bayou fountain on Bluebonnet. He said the water appears to be flowing correctly.

Hopefully it remains.

As an aside, I don't understand the point of having all of these river gages if you have to either A) manually check them, or B) they have upper limits near historical records.

We've got no clue what is going on at Bayou Manchac point because the damn gage is topped completely. The gages in most of the basin are manual and/or inoperable.

This gage has read 13.70 feet every fifteen minutes since midnight. Obviously that is wrong one way or the other. If you can't get an accurate reading, put a notice on the website or something so people don't think things are leveling off.

The part of the state I'm in has been completely drenched for a month. We got over a foot of rain this weekend. I would imagine this being an agitator of the back flooding, as we have a considerable amount of water that has to be evacuated instead of absorbed, as does everything south of the river.

the media gives no fricks about the good people of br. They swarm to cover bullshite and then they want to ignore the efforts of the population that is coming together and saving others.

Louisiana is the way we are and has never needed to rely on national media to save us. We come together as we have always done.

Thanks! I have family in that area and they said no water anywhere close except on Perkins right past Pecue heading towards Highland, but that gets water during bad downpour. I'm thinking Highland neighborhoods would have to take in water before we would be at risk, but wanted to check to be sure.

How is water moving into Spanish Lake? Is it just from pouring over the road from Manchac? I don't think the locks connecting Manchac to Spanish Lake/Alligator Bayou are open.

Question, if one is an X at 16.5 Ft and the A zones are 12.3 ft, how do you calculate how safe you are?

It doesn't really work that way across the entire area, but if those are the elevations immediately near you, then that is promising, in a dry way.

The Great Flood of 2016: Backflow Flooding Occuring (8/14/16)
What's the best way to gauge the swamps capacity?? Thx

Honestly the best way is to look at the old 100 year flood maps they generated:

Something I now notice - the swamp is not as high capacity as we thought before. Manchac Road acts as a levee, meaning that really only 1/3 of it is filling up. In this map that they drew up, a 100 year flood is supposed to fill it to capacity and continue on backwater. Will this actually happen? Who knows. These maps were drawn a long time ago and already this flood has flooded areas that are white and not flooded areas that are blue. But I would act under the assumption that if you are in blue, you will flood.

Anyone have any info regarding Kensington, Jamestown, Brookhollow Glen, etc...neighborhoods in between Siegen and Highland off Perkins.

Have freinds that live here and it is high and dry. It is above highland road and the creek that is behind it would have to crest over the railroad tracks to get to that area. Pretty unlikely.

Friends just evacuated from Westhaven burbank/bluebonnet area. Houses are flooded in there. He said it's still rising a considerable amount and it's all from the drainage system not from the bayou that run along the backside of the neighborhood.

Do they have any pictures? Where in the neighborhood is their house?
