You are correct, in the next century England will likelybe more catholic than Anglican. Catholics are winning because the younger ones are very traditional and they pop out a lot of kids.

Apparently the higher up Catholics believed it to, or they wouldn't have played "hidden shell games" with pedophiles they thought could repent.

Besides the eyewitness accounts of Jesus by his apostles, He is mentioned in the writings of the Jewish historian Josephus and also in Roman historical writings. I'm not trying to bash your religion so don't take this as such, but the more and more we have found about "eye witness accounts", the less and less they are relied upon and treated as fact. You Are Not So Smart - Inattentional Blindness

yes the left is winning the war on religion and has removed all reminders of religion in daily life.

as they get older people realize they need more then being selfish and self centered and seek out ways to find more in life

There's a lot of stupidity in this post. But I'll address the last part. Not being a part of religion does not make one selfish or self centered. What an asinine statement to make. My family has not attended one church service, ever, yet we are involved in raising money for the American Cancer society and give to St. Jude regularly.

One does not need a mythical being to not be a piece of shite, and there are plenty of believers who are terrible people.

People are going to put their fiath, morality, and beliefs in something. The better question should be, what can we do to foster these religions into a more homogeneous system within our diverse country.

In any-case, religion is man made and full of the flaws of man.

yup. as long as there are people out there who would be complete shite bags without the promise of heaven or the threat of hell keeping them decent i'm glad (for the most part) that religion is around.

Politics is the new religion. Its divides us and fills us with false hope like religion only wishes it could. And its priests and preachers care for us just as little as ever.

I would add celebrity worship to that.

that's what killed it for me. I was in a vocational discernment school in Cheshire Connecticut and I was told what I couldn't read because it might damage my faith. 15 years later here I am an agnostic atheist.

I never proclaimed to be a churchgoer, or religious in any way.

Said poster replied to my post in belittling fashion and I issued an appropriate response.

Hammer meet head! This such a large part of many problems in our society. I get the belief that people you know and love would never steer you wrong or fill your head with things that are untrue, but the same happened to them...and the generation before them and so on.Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong. If evidence is ever presented that works against that belief, that new evidence is difficult to accept. It creates a very uncomfortable feeling in one's self...this is cognitive dissonance. Because your mind tells you that it is so important to protect the core belief that has been instilled, they will rationalize, ignore and deny anything that does not fit or support.

A lot of people dobt believe what they were taught. They go to church to keep the peace in the family, to cultivate business contacts, or because the sense of community gives them fulfillment.

I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school from 6 to 8th grade. I started to really question religion while at Catholic school. While I was raised Catholic and my mom's parents being devout Catholics, my dad was Baptist (didn't practice) and his mother changed to Methodist after my grandfather passed away (which was before I was a year old so I never knew him). And also knowing other people from different faiths and that each one was different in it's own way, I started to question who was right and who was wrong.

From time to time I heard my mom say "it doesn't matter what church you are in when you are praying, everyone has the same goal and that's to get to heaven".

From there, I started thinking "well if it doesn't matter what religion someone is, then what is the point of religion?". There were a lot of things I thought about, that was different than what I was taught.. when it came to religion, but the idea of telling people this is what I think, seemed to be risky. So for years I just went along with what I was suppose to believe.

I believe in a higher power, but not in the traditional way and I think religions serve a purpose in society, to some degree, but they can also be dangerous. I also think there is a chance there could be no higher power so my beliefs do not really fall under any religion. I believe life is too complicated to be able to ID every person as simply "good" or "bad".

And people commit acts of "sin", but there are factors beyond their control that can be at play and if that is the case, would someone really spend forever suffering, if they did something that was caused by something beyond their control?

Religions teach people to judge others and that certain behaviors are bad, but again, there are things that are beyond people's control and to think that people are taught to think a certain way about people who have no control over who they are just seems insane.

I think there will always be religion, but I think it will eventually have less and less influence on people's day to day life.

I said it wrong. Religion is cult like behavior. Christianity is a relationship.

It's fading for sure. My generation is much less religious than my parents was/is, etc

One's religion typically fades from childhood until marriage. Once you start having kids, you start caring about it more. Our generation is getting married later than our parents generation, so there's a larger overall decline in religion. I myself have let my religion fade, but I know where my future kids will be every Sunday

Wait, there are people who actually take the Bible literally? Damn, our brains haven't evolved one bit.

I just don’t see the importance here. I can instill good morals in my children without having to go to church every Sunday. Not that there’s anything wrong with those people who do. But I also think that with people around my age (30), there has been a migration away from organized religion.

Im thinking religion will fade a good bit and spirituality will rise to where it was before religion began. There will always be “standard” and “moral “ society though
