We go to church most Sundays . We ( wife and I) are both 51 . I would say it's around 70 % of people are over 40 years old or older .The younger generation doesn't go as much... that I've seen anyway

Guess what....

That’s what the people at church looked like 50 years ago.

And 25 years ago.

And 10 years ago.

People tend to skip in their 20’s and 30’s, and then start going to church again as they get older.

I believe a comedian once called it ‘cramming for their final exam’.

Well this thread has gone as expected. Start off by talking about how religion is changing and then quickly denigrates into an “everyone is going to hell vs you’re all stupid” fest.

I don’t know which side is dumber, honestly.

I see it coming back to a baseline. Jesus, and his early followers didn't intend things to progress like it happened. There wasn't a bible. No physical church you joined. The Catholic church turned it into a busines.

1000 years from now, the earth will be filled with devout Roman Catholics and noting else.

Let's see who's right. See you at the finish line, Nostradamus.

Right, religion is man made.

No amount of technology has been able to fill the void in man’s heart that God and faith fills, and so you’ll never wipe it out.

Correct. And I disagree with "people are now less religious" crowd. The organized church has been fighting this for a few thousand years. They have used public shame, the government, etc to make people go to church. We put a clause in our system to keep religon and gov seperate becuase of this.

Besides the eyewitness accounts of Jesus by his apostles

Eyewitness, really? So which one actually wrote what he saw down with his own eyes, at that time?

Josephus wrote about Jesus a full century later. That was more than enough time for people to make some shite up.

The eyewitness accounts were written at least 70 years later, and not by the actual witnesses, but someone who claims to have spoken to the eyewitnesses.

If your grandma told you about a dude bringing people from the dead and turning wine into water at her high school prom, would you be more inclined to believe her, or have her checked for dementia?

The night that Lincoln was assassinated very few people could agree on what they saw. As Joe Rogan is wont to say, eyewitnesses aren't reliable.

I read this that said more people are actually attending. Doesn't really fit the narrative that "religion is dying".

I don't know if it is just something that comes with getting order or if it is a sign of the times, but I notice more people are at least agnostic.

We live in a time when much more information is available that allows people to question whatever religion they grew up being taught.

It seems like more people of strong faith or even more acceptable of people who questions whether there is a God or not.

Also, I think there are a lot of people who still do not admit they have different views than what they were taught.

So if this is your belief I have just one question for you. How old is planet earth?

Actually they tried too hard to adapt, with Vatican II, and it turned people off.

As long as people seek answers to “why” and “how” there will always be religion.

Not if we advance to the point that those questions finally receive proven and verifiable answers. We will no longer have the need to resort supernatural explanations.

yes the left is winning the war on religion and has removed all reminders of religion in daily life.

as they get older people realize they need more then being selfish and self centered and seek out ways to find more in life

I would say the more we learn the more questions we have.

There is always going to be a "why" and "how" for new things that we learn.

Well yeah, "why" and "how" are words that will not go away nor will their meaning. But when the answers to the questions "Why are we here? and "How did we come to exist?" will receive answers that will no longer require a supernatural fill in the blank.

I think you're going to see more people treat politics as a religion. I know as I've shifted away from organized religion, I've found comfort in hiking/working out/rock climbing. When I'm going well with my anxiety and depression, I'm hiking almost every single Sunday morning and picking up trash on the trails.
