How do you see religion evolving over the next few millennia? Will the current major religions have staying power as knowledge and technology continue to develop exponentially? Will new theological beliefs likely come to the forefront?

My guess is mainstream religions will kind of merge with new age spirituality.

Knowledge is not expanding exponentially. We're mostly making up shite at this point.

My bet is on "Church Yoga"
Who doesn't like repenting for sins in the downward dog position?

It's fading for sure. My generation is much less religious than my parents was/is, etc

We go to church most Sundays . We ( wife and I) are both 51 . I would say it's around 70 % of people are over 40 years old or older .The younger generation doesn't go as much... that I've seen anyway

Until Jesus shows up again, the core of the Catholic Church won't really change. The core teachings are based on what Jesus taught us.
I'm not shocked that people are becoming less and less religious , the bible calls it out .
"I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number

Catholism will be teetering on the brink here and in other wealthy counties in the two generations or maybe a little less. They refuse to adapt to changing times and it may already be too late. Sad to see.

I don't believe in religion, I believe in Christianity.

When I was 19, I realized that the divine is, only.
The general public will be led by 100 charismatic truth tellers world wide.
There's only the One.

Politics is the new religion. Its divides us and fills us with false hope like religion only wishes it could. And its priests and preachers care for us just as little as ever.
We better get our shite together before it's too late. Realize we are in charge and not some assholes we put on a pedestal.

My hope...Christianity, Islam, Hindu, etc. All wind up in the same place as the Roman and Greek mythological gods today. This will be because our technological and scientific advances will provide answers to questions that are largely filled in by dogma today.

1000 yrs from now, organized religion will be viewed and studied how we look at mythology today.
i'll use catholicism as an example. it has been evolving the last 50 yrs to become more inclusive and retain the paying membership and membership is still dwindling rapidly.
i see a lot of hypocrisy in organized religion. for example my in-laws are pro-life but for the death penalty.
i don't believe in grown up fairy tales. if there was a god, he would have already shown up to stop the genocide, torture, murder, rape, etc. i believe we have a better chance of UFO's landing on LSU campus and tailgaiting for the Bama game than god showing up.

Here’s my two cents, take it for what it’s worth.
I grew up Southern Baptist and I very much believe that God is real. I was an every Wednesday and Sunday family.
Then I went to college and the church stopped ministering to me. That’s not a citation against specifically the church i grew up in more so towards religion in general. I found myself no longer in a target demographic. Kids ministry keeps parents in church. Parent ministry keeps parents attending. But we were the forgotten demographic. It’s tough transitioning from being a kid to an adult spiritually and without guidance I suppose I had a little resentment. And I think my situation is a microcosm of the problem churches of all denominations are facing right now. They assumed my generation would simply continue the cycle because that’s what they did. And they stopped ministering to us in possibly the most tormenting and difficult period of our lives.
Now I’m not going to one of those Holier Than Thou for two hours big tent churches. Not my style and it seems contrived. But that’s why you see so many of these mega non-denominational churches popping up populated by people under 40. Because they catered to the a la carte brand of Christianity.

The longer time goes on, the less religious people there will be.
