Individually as musicians, they were diverging just so much. If you look at what their produced once they split, you can see how much of a strain it must have been to continue working together at that point.

In 1970, Harrison was releasing My Sweet Lord

Paul (with the Wings) released Band on the Run in 1973, which was essentially a continuation of the Beatles style

And John, other than Imagine (1971), was doing... whatever the frick he was doing with Yoko.

When you listen to Abbey Road from start to finish, you can already hear the split.

Completely agree with this and was going to post something similar. Listening to one of those start to finish, on repeat, is what got me into them in the first place. There is something for everyone in their catalog, you just have to go find it.

Side Two of Abbey Road might still be my favorite experience in music, and that's a high fricking bar for me.

Most of their music still sounds fresh today. Uniquely special.

One thing I've observed over the years is how it captures the imagination of very young children when they first hear it, regardless of the generation. Magic.

It's not for everyone. With that said, at lot of people, when they think of the Beatles, think of their early bubblegum pop music. With the exception of a handful songs, those albums can mostly be ignored. They came into their own with Rubber Soul, then continued with Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, the White Album (it's self titled, so it's referred to by the album cover), ending with Abbey Road.

If you haven't actually tried listening to those albums in full, you should. You may end up still disliking the Beatles, but then you'll know.

I hear you. Would you mind linking some of the songs that are unique in that way? I'll gladly take a listen.

If someone had never listened to the Beatles, and I put on Helter Skelter without comment and asked them to guess the year the song was released, I imagine the answers would be interesting, to say the least. I always enjoy the faces people make when I say that the Beatles, arguably, invented metal

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking for, and considering I assume I don't have many shots at this, would you mind elaborating?

Haha I still think you should try the entire albums I listed, but alright, fair. Want to give me a few examples of their popular songs you find "corny"? That way I can steer you towards other sounds.

You forgot “Magical Mystery Tour”, their best in my opinion.

They were, but they aged with the music around them. All great musicians. 3 incredible songwriters. All one band. Grew from bubble gum pop to Sgt. pepper.

All we really can hope for from bands is ten years. Zepplin made ten. Longer bands are the outliers. The extreme exception being The Stones. Everyone else needs early tragedy to stay together. The Who... Dead drummer. Metallica... Dead Bassist. Pearl Jam... Dead singer from Mother Love Bone.

So, I love it, but because it's *truly* not for everyone, and because it was written as a soundtrack instead of an album, I excluded it. But I have no objection, whatsoever.

That's cool. If they were teens when the Beatles were around, we don't want the pics anyways

You know that movie where no one remembers the Beatles? I want to live in that world.

Their voices are whiny and grating. I can handle some Beatles songs if someone else is covering them. But please stop pretending that crap like "Love Me Do", "Yesterday", "Rocky Raccoon", "Ob-La-Di", "Revolution 9", "Let it Be", "Yellow Submarine", etc are brilliant.

It seems like a generation of people were brainwashed into believing that the Backstreet Boys were the greatest musicians ever.

A fair assessment that John Lennon himself could have penned right here on this August Board. He often felt that way about MUCH of The Beatles' work product. I don't know if that was his permanent conclusion on the topic.

What he is saying is to listen to the albums in full. Start at Rubber Soul chronologically. There is likely a gem on that one and revolver you might have never heard that you really like so I hate to give you a specific example. But some of my favorites from those two are For No One, I’m Only Sleeping and If I Needed Someone (which is also one song from each of the songwriters).
