Yeah...which probably made some sense before almost everyone had a backup camera. Now it's the dumbest fricking exercise in made up safety rules ever.
When you have 5000+ people rushing to leave at the exact same time it's easier to facilitate that if everyone zipper merges into traffic.

I had a girlfriend that was weird about this.
She could back INTO the garage, and park it just fine.
Pulling OUT of the garage backwards? Nope. Would hit something (including the frame of the door) every 3rd time or so.

I try to park where I can just pull through an empty space into another one and not have to back up. I back in at work because it keeps the front of my truck in the shade and I can leave faster.

Our company requires every vehicle on company property to back in. Seeing the little old ladies in the office doing it was hilarious

You have to back up at one point either way.

I drive a truck and always back in. 1) It’s safer to back into a static spot than backing out into a lane where you can’t see what’s coming. 2) it’s easier to pull out of a spot than to try to back out of a spot because of math.

It’s a pain in the arse when you’re behind someone in a parking lot and all of a sudden they stop and then you have to back up because you realize they want to back in to a spot.

It's epidemic at my office - All but 2 out of 14 back in. It bothers me not a bit, but it was absolutely not always like that - it evolved over time. Maybe a bit of do like everyone else - as I think in context it overall serves no real advantage I can see as the effort and time in my observation equals out either way.

Also keep in mind it can make it easier for you to see if you're in a car if you pull out of the spot instead of back out of it.
I don't back in, but do try to find a spot where both spaces are empty so I can pull into the next space so I can just pull out.
With everybody driving SUVs now, I might be halfway out before I can even see whether it's even clear when backing out. If I just drive out, it's easier for me to lean up to where I can see past the cars on the side of me.

I'm fine with backing in except in slanted spaces. My office has a parking garage with 1 way traffic and slanted spaces and some people would still back in.

Also way more courteous to ba k in vs back out in a mass exodus situation like post church or ball game when everyone is leaving.
With modern cameras it is pretty straightforward to back into a spot.
