I drive a 3/4 ton. I let the situation dictate it. Angled spots at a grocery store, I just pull in. Mostly empty parking lot, I'm going to go away from everyone and just pull through. Crowded lot, basically necessitates me backing in where possible.
In general, I park as far away from everyone as possible.

Always a jacked up truck that takes almost a full minute to do so and causes a back up in the parking lot.

It's much easier to back a pick-up truck or SUV into a parking space. Why does this bother you?

You have better range of vision when pulling forward and backup cameras have made backing into spots a lot easier for the vast majority of folks.
For me it depends on the circumstance. For example, if I'm at the grocery store, I'm not even pulling through because I want the easier access to my trunk. If I'm at the gym, I usually park along the back row so I'll back in (especially if there are plenty of empty spots along that row) because it's easier to pull out.

I’ve had a full-size truck for over 15 years have backed in a handful of times at most. Just never seen the need.

Ive tried to be understanding but youre just... wrong. Its NOT easier, I can fly into my spot, I can fling it in reverse and whip out too. 0 effort.
You can claim that in a busy parking lot that its safer to back in so you can leave with higher visibility.
You CANNOT say its easier to back in and leave facing forward, its factually wrong.

We had an insurance company do an audit on how we could save money. Backing into parking spaces was one of the suggestions. Can’t remember the stats they used but backing in prevented a lot of minor accidents.

The decision comes down to efficiency.
When I leave somewhere an efficient exit is best for everyone. The last thing I want is for my exit to delay anyone else.
That holds true for the parking decision. If my choice to back in holds up someone else, i won’t do it. At church I will just pull in driver side first, but I’m leaving early so it won’t inconvenience anyone else.

It's epidemic at my office - All but 2 out of 14 back in. It bothers me not a bit, but it was absolutely not always like that - it evolved over time. Maybe a bit of do like everyone else - as I think in context it overall serves no real advantage I can see as the effort and time in my observation equals out either way.

I only care because it gives me a reason to make fun of people who don’t know who to park their own vehicle so they have to back it in like a woman.
