i'm just going to say that a nanny for $1000 a month will eventually cost you all your DVDs and most of your pain pills

You can hire an au pair for like $18,000 a year. You'll get more for the money ( ).

Daycare about to price themselves out of business and get taken over by the likes of AirBnb-type services. I'm sure Care.com or similar services will spike.

Afterall, a daycare is full of strangers you don't know already.

You'd trust someone to watch your kid and your house for $12000 a year?

Shiiit, I'm not comforted by the types of people I see working at day cares 100% either.

Have either you or your wife stay at home. We found that having my wife at home with the kids actually saves us a lot more money than just daycare.

We eat out less and she has time to be careful with where she shops. We don't dry clean as many clothes. We put less miles on the car. We pay a lot less in taxes, and we are a lot less stressed on the weekend.

Depends on how hot, and skills required to perform.

Go ahead and try.

If you pay a nanny $10/hour to watch your kid only 8 hours/day 5 days a week and assume 22 days in a work month, you are paying $1,760 a month assuming you are not giving any benefits and willing to hire someone with little to no experience.

On the other hand, even at $1,300/month for your kid, you are paying $7.40/hour with multiple people on site and legal protection for your kid (assuming you put them in a legit/good daycare).

If you have 2-3+ kids, a nanny could be well worth it, but for just 1, it is not at all.

It would come close to making sense for us except that insurance for wife and kids through wife's employer is much less than through mine or the marketplace. Also, take into account wife's work retirement account. Also take into account wife's sanity from being stuck at home with the heathens all day

UNA was my first choice but we only live an hour from Florence.

He doesn't want to be that close to home unfortunately.

I'm just happy he chose Troy. Less options for trouble in Troy than Mobile.

I have 3 kids under 2 y/o and our local daycare would be ~$710 per week. We have a nanny that comes to our house every day from 7-4 and pay her $190 for my oldest son because my wife is still home with the newborn twins. When school starts in Aug (wife is teacher), we will be paying her $450/week to watch all 3

Mom should stay home, y'all should have more kids. If that doesn't work for you, move to a small town.
Grow your own food, homeschool your kids, resist the materialism of the world.

Or don't, and watch society crumble.

Mine is looking at Utah and Colorado. He wants to be as far away from his parents and Alabama as possible. I have my fingers crossed for Utah. It's a lot like Bham and it's the cheapest school in the PAC-12. It's actually cheaper there than Bama or Auburn after you get in-state tuition.

I think I was paying around 750 a month at FUMC in BR. They have a curriculum and call you on the carpet if the child misses too much school. She was at Woman's hospital daycare for the early years, wife got employee discount but was still pretty high. Diaper and formula were included. Now I pay just $200 more a month for her to attend SJA.

It's almost worth it to have they wife stay at home. The money you're working for to pay the daycare, the sick/vacation days you'll have to take, the kid having to miss daycare due to sickness but you still pay, and the holidays the daycare may have would have me stressed out.

I know I paid 9500 a year for my son in BR.

I pretty much chose not to have a second child due to daycare costs.

I wonder if/when middle class goes into China mode and just has one child per household.
