Am I to believe that daycare should cost more than freaking college?
My kids better be leaving this place with a fricking Master's Degree in Engineering.
Any reasonable places around the BR to Hammond area that educates children well and isn't trying to extort the masses?

I pay $25 a day to have my daughter watched during the day.
Starting at the end of this school year, my MIL that teaches kindergarten will be retiring to watch her full time until she begins pre-school. I'm very lucky.

considering the liabilities that a daycare must have, yeah I'd say they should probably cost more than college
I'd kill myself if I were a daycare teacher

one kid is almost 1000 dollars a month. I could hire a nanny for that.

We had an in-home nanny the first 2 years. It was awesome.

First place we had my kid in was more than my mortgage per month. It was awesome. Hot women everywhere. Wish I could have kept the dude there, but I do like to have gas in my car.

It's a business bro, they are leveraging the basic principles of economics just like a business should. Some win, some lose.
It is what it is....and I agree that the prices are crazy.

A family friend that watches her from her home. She's watched my wife back in the day and lives next door to 2 of my wife's cousins. Obviously it's not a situation everyone has access to.

We're starting to look around in the Hammond area. For one kid, most places have been between $135-$200/week

It's because of the enormous salaries the day care workers command.

I have some friends that lived in Cambridge who were paying $3,000/mo for their kid to go to daycare.
When she found out she was pregnant with their second, they said screw this and moved a bit further outside the city.

Look into the churches. We've had ours in a couple of the the local church childcare centers since they were 2 years old. They actually teach them stuff too so it's not just daycare. I think it's around 300 per month at the one we are at right now for 5 days/week, but that does not include aftercare.
Care is most expensive between 0-2 yrs old, in the $800-$1k per month range. Get past that and it gets better.

Our first daycare, I was paying more per year than my first salary. But, it was the only place with availability when we needed it. We were already enrolled with another place that we felt great about. Did multiple tours, researched it, no red flags at all. Then about a month before we were going to start, a kid the age of ours died in its crib because the teachers let him sleep with a pillow.
The place we ended up was expensive as hell, but definitely worth it at the time because after the first experience my wife was really nervous about daycare, obviously. This place was an OT baller place for sure. All food and diapers included, at least one teacher in each room had an early education or child development degree. Cameras in each room that you can watch from your phone whenever you want. We'd probably still be there if we could afford it, but it just wasn't sustainable long term.
