We obviously do. I know there's more important things than money.

We will end up going to an official daycare when she turns 16 months so that she can start learning some things.

Thank God her mom is retired and is going to move in to take care of her during the week.

Unique situation you are very lucky to have. Most baby boomer grandma's are to busy rediscovering themselves or showing their tits at mardi gras to get involved with day to day helping their family.

So many have that attitude of I raised you now I'm its me time. Not many grandma's help like they used to.

Yup, wasn't really considering private schools until I thought about it and realized we'd be paying less than what we are now anyway.

I pay $1100 for four days a week (its only 1200 for five days but my father in law keeps him a day). Love the place. Kid loves it. Biometric security, teachers with college degrees. He learns Spanish and Mandarin. It's easy to complain, but I could be paying 800 a month and have him be set in front of a TV to watch

That sounds about right. That's why pre-k4 is popular now. That's why any price you find under $150/week usually fills up fast. So if you do find something under $150 you may want to jump on that fast.

i agree 100%.

my wife spent 8 years through med school and residency and after 1 year of practice is ready to stop so she can be a mom and have time as a family.

i've always preached to her that there is a such thing as enough money, and that i would rather a decent living and time together than make a ton of money and have no time. she used to argue constantly and all that mattered was making money. she's sees the light now though.

FTR, i have nothing against women being the bread winner, but i do feel there should be only 1 depending on job demands. two 8-5s aren't a big deal. but i work extensive hours and travel, and she is an OBGYN that gets called for babies all the time, not a good mix.

This is true. I used to worry about affording college, even with tops. However after putting my kids through daycare I am no longer concerned about that

Feminism.

Eta:to be clear it isn't a slight against you or your wife- just that society now tells women they can do whatever they want, until they don't want to and then are on the hook for $100k+ in loans that they don't want to pay because they want to be a stay at home mom.

Putting my kid in daycare at 1140 a month has taught me I don't even need to fricking save for college. If I can afford almost $14K a year I can send my kid to college without even saving a penny.

Of course once he goes to elementary school I'll save up a little bit to have something off the bat, but there's really no reason to save anything now.

We use Goddard school for my 2 year old.

My 10 year old will finally be a latchkey kid next year. That's another $200 a month. Will be nice to have the money in my pocket soon.

My wife has wanted to quit working for 2 years now. I won't let her.

Her job is about 90% work from home and she makes ridiculous money for the amount of flexibility she has.

Mine is about 30% work from home, so it's a great situation that allows two incomes but a lot of the benefits of a stay at home parent. We typically both go to doctor visits, one of us is always available to stop what we are doing to pick up a sick kid or keep them home, or just grab them early to do something fun.

Honestly, I fear for my productivity during the work from home time when we make the jump to her staying home with the kids.

High daycare is another reason the middle class only has two kids on the average.
While the freeloaders get free daycare at the taxpayers expense. They can then have xx kids.
