The bridge that's never going to be built just got delayed another 2 years...

(The Center Square) – In an 11th hour tax-reform provision included in House Bill 10, $280 million from vehicle sales taxes will be redirected to the general fund, delaying infrastructure projects such as the Interstate 49 expansion and a new Mississippi River bridge in Baton Rouge.
Funding delays may stall the long-awaited projects in Baton Rouge. Lawmakers recently redirected $280 million from vehicle sales tax revenue to the state’s general fund to offset revenue shortfalls stemming from income tax cuts.
"Sen. Henry, Speaker DeVillier and I have committed to the people of Louisiana that we will ensure the necessary funding to finish I-49 North, I-49 South, the Calcasieu River Bridge, and the Baton Rouge Bridge," Gov. Jeff Landry said on X.

Toll bridge is the only way. People in Baton Rouge don't want to pay for a Lake Charles bridge and Lake Charles doesn't want to pay for a Baton Rouge bridge.

I'm not sure the tax reform they passed will be approved by the voters.

Louisiana gonna Louisiana.

I don't understand how other states can function and operate halfway efficiently. Louisiana will forever be backwards with its "gotta get mine too" operations.

Slashing wasteful spending would be another way to plug that hole.

Other states are just as bad. The only difference is other states use tolls and direct more tax money to roads. If voters were smart and politicians were honest they would look at all the money waste on pet projects outside of roads and let the voters decide.
For example: Did the voters want tax dollars to go to a Cotton Museum in Lake Providence, or would they rather it go to roads?
My guess aside from the 5 individuals who receive the political job at the museum and the special interests that were paid to build it, the family that "donated" the land for a price and a couple of people in the local community who lied about the "economic" impact, but really use it for their own benefit, the voters would have voted against it.
This is just one of a thousand pet projects that waste tax dollars.

They really showed how committed there are to that by:

Landry has been a disaster so far

Well Biden passed his big infrastructure bill that covers the bridge in Lake Charles. So you can't blame Biden. Congressman Higgins voted against it. Can't blame Louisiana Democrats as they are not in power. Louisiana Legislature has been controlled by Republicans for about 20 or so years.
Who will be your scapegoat now?

that bridge is never getting built

Complete smoke and mirrors. Most of it came with requirements that cannot be met, very little will go to that bridge. That was money coming back to the states that never should have left.

So answer the question, who is the scapegoat now?

Also, this was the Green New Deal filled with fraud.

Louisiana can eat shite and die. Without road infrastructure a state has nothing.

The current I-10 bridge in Baton Rouge and its’ eastbound one lane crush at the Washington st. exit is choking off economic growth of the BR area.
Monday evening before Thanksgiving it took an hour just to reach the on ramp from La 1 in Bruly then another hour just to get to Airline Hwy. on I-12.
This morning at 7 AM traffic was backed up at the Washington st. Exit.
Why are our elected officials punishing its’ Citizens in this fashion?

While I agree on tolls…they have their place, but you have to look at the bigger picture.
Could we fund it another way through additional regional gas taxes or even a tax on EV charging?
Look at the Leeville Bridge that toll bridge was estimated to bring in a certain toll revenue but it is falling way short and the rates keep going up. Some of this is through toll exemptions since they eliminated tolls for residents of Grand Isle and points south. They also have a huge issue with collecting tolls, there not enough places in the state that toll to justify the collection costs. Maybe once the Belle Chase Bridge comes online that may increase toll tag adoption.
LA is still not even on the multistate tolling bandwagon where you can use a TexasTag here and a Geaux Pass there.

Landry continues to be a clown, his mouth writing checks that his arse can’t cash. He’s just looking to create enough of a splash to launch his next campaign and leave the mess behind for someone else to clean up.

Who needs a bridge when you have legal protection to pay cash at tiger stadium and legislators fighting over hemp.

The amount of state museums in these little random arse towns in Louisiana that receive tax dollars is absurd. The cotton museum is just one, look up the Oil & Gas Museum, the Germantown museum, the Mansfield Female College Museum.
Also, Chris Daigle (Iberville Parish President) just asked lawmakers about 2 months ago to make sure that money isn’t touched so ensure the BR bridge has the funding.
