My dad's cousin and her husband are like this.
Every year, they send out an old school Christmas card and letter to share about their "blessings" from the past year, such as country club events, new cars, or exotic vacations. Photos included.
Then they'll throw in a brief sentence or two about their kids at the very end. Photos not included. It's not like their kids are deadbeats or anything either.

It's pretty easy to mess with insecure people like that.
You should've given her a "pfff" as if to say you were completely unimpressed every time she volunteered one of those costs.
Alternatively, you could've started picking out random items from their house and asking how much they cost. Dustpan, roll of toilet paper, maybe a random door.

It sounds like it no longer runs and is worth about half. That works out to be $2700, per trip, on the water.
You need to remind your buddy, in his wife's presence, that if it flies, floats, or fricks, it is way cheaper to rent it.
That should take care of getting invited over anymore.

Do they live in Lakeview? I know a guy who owns a landscaping company and he needed extra help on an install a couple months ago. The job probably cost about $12k. And the wife drove a black Escalade. I didn’t see a boat though.
