So, you’re down for child wives and polygamy? Nice.

I really hope these people don’t have children.
News flash - in LDS the pressure is heavy to very quickly get married after college and start pumping out the kids.
I personally know two such couples, they're both under 25, already have three kids each and are planning for more.
In a city here like DC they are definitely outliers, most people here start families around 35-ish if they are even interested in doing so.

I don’t know how they buy in to the whole Joseph Smith stuff but as a teacher who has taught many Mormons whatever they do works. They are amazing people and raise amazing kids.

I think the worse is when the Ugandans are singing because they curse a good bit. There's no outright jabs at religion but there's certainly some moments that would probably offend religious folks.
The first Ugadnan song and their take on Mormonism are probably where it's the worst

How bad is it? We are going to nyc in September and are trying to decide on a show. Is basically every other word a cuss word? Would it piss you off if you were religious?
One of the lines in a song is
"frick you God in the arse, mouth, and count"
There's a scene where Hitler and Genghis Khan have sex with a character's parents.
The story is all about people loving each other and building a strong, safe community.

They literally have never harmed this nation
You're kidding right?
They were kicked out of New York, Missouri, and Illinois because they tried to establish local theocracies.
Have you heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre?
They didn't allow black people in the Church until 1978..
You are incredibly ignorant person

I guess mormons are one of the few groups you can go after without being criticized for being bigoted or close minded. Oh well, mormons can go on enjoying their incredible state of Utah with its high rankings on literally every quality of life measurement....and y'all can go on enjoying your embarrassing crime rates, third world esque poverty situations, and dysfunctional social fabric. Give me happy families, financially stable societies, complete lack of teen loser moms, and strong communal structures over whatever horrifying ghetto society of hopelessness and bottom of the barrel living standards you people offer.
Calm your magic-underwear-enclothed tits, Mrs Smith

Seen it three times in NOLA twice on Broadway and Once in London. Would go see it again

HailHailtoMichigan: Dude, the play is funny. Humor is mostly subjective, but one can still make fun of and laugh at subjects that one even likes. The Mormon ethos has much to commend it and the people are terrific, hard working, inspired, and if you would...UberAmericans. But, the underpinnings of their faith are COMICALLY weird. Magic hat, seer stones, gold tablets in cryptic language in post Industrial upstate New York, lost tribes of Israel, etc, etc. A funny play about easy prey in today’s society.

I wouldn’t go that far. The Mormon church did some pretty brutal shite in their early days. But I do agree in recent times they’ve been model citizens

Did you have any walkouts?
A couple during the first act and there were at least twenty seats vacant in the 2nd that were filled in the first.
The sound wasn't perfect and I think that may have contributed to some staying.
(Years ago Marcel Marceau came to Knoxville and the folks beside me walked out because there was no narration and the French are just SO different.)

Yeah, holy shite it's so fricking great. Just saw it at The Fox tonight. It's definitely worthy of all the praise it gets, and then some. Well done Matt and Trey.

Yeah I just got back from it, these two Asians chicks in front of me lost it during the Chinese part

I’m pretty sure you’re confusing the LDS with extremist offshoots. I don’t think LDS has had polygamy since the 19th century. Like if you were discovered to be married to more than one wife you’d be kicked out, is my understanding.

At times, yes. Not always though and definitely not all the time. Some of the songs taken out of the context of the play could definitely be taken as horribly irreligious. So if you decide to google some of them (especially the songs like Joseph Smith American Moses and Hasa Diga Eebowai) just pay attention to the whole thing and not just the words themselves.
It's not so much a jab at Mormonism as it is about two particular Mormons and their adventure.

Same here. After the play two of the older ladies that had been sitting behind us stopped me to say they thought the play was very funny but my reactions made it even better for them (because I thought it was insanely hilarious and at times had to keep myself from falling out of my seat from laughing to hard).
