I get not wanting to keep the opposing teams home run ball, but why not just find a kid in the stands that's a fan of the dodgers and give it to them?
If I was at a Bama LSU game and an LSU player tossed his gloves into the stands and they somehow landed in my lap, my first reaction wouldn't be to throw them back.

As someone who has zero rooting interest in the world series, I am now rooting for that dude's team to lose.

I always enjoy watching the crowd at a place like Houston, where every last person there is going crazy like they are living and dying with every pitch. And yet Houston is 15th in attendance this year with less than 30k per game

Stupid "tradition." It's a World Series home run ball, and throwing it back doesn't take a run off the board.
Keep the ball, tell the story to your kids, etc.

might prove harder to sell if you were so inclined.

So long as you don't throw back the original and keep the one you brought, I'm not sure that would be the case.
People at Cubs games have done the switcharoo before. LINK

I would be happy to replace her missing ball with a couple of my own.
