I always buy used and never have paid more than $30K. For me it’s just a way to get from point A to point B.

Same… I often feel I’m behind the curve and haven’t done everything I could to be comfortable in retirement… then I realize most don’t have a pot to piss in and zero plan for the future, so maybe I’m not screwing up.

There’s no need to own anything. Having a vehicle (let alone food and shelter) is a privilege, not a right. Privilege allotments will be distributed by the leader. Have you been loyal?

I haven't always bought used, but I've never spent more than 35k on a vehicle. Looks like I'll only buy used moving forward though

I was thinking about buying a new vehicle in next year or so since mine is now over 150k miles.

Unless the market changes, I’ve changed my mind to just keep driving it & see if I can hit 250k. Def won’t be buying brand new whenever I do

I drive a 2013 Tundra and have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon.

Artificially. They just wait for people to come in and order one and then say well the demand is high so there's a $2k market adjustment. Dealer doesn't have to stock as many vehicles and gets more money, Pretty solid scam.

I drive a 2015 Tacoma with just over 143k miles on it. I’ve never had any significant issues with it, just normal stuff like replacing the battery, brakes and tires. I hope to get at least another 100k out of it. I like the idea of a new truck sometimes, but it’s just not worth it while mine still runs fine and meets my needs. Not having a truck payment is nice, too.

Anyone shopped for a small truck lately? Chevrolet Colorado's are $40k!! And then they keep their value like crazy. No real deals on used ones unless they are packed with miles. If someone could go back and tell the teenager me that it would take $40k to buy an S10 I would never believe it.

I have been shopping colorados / canyons for nearly 4 years. Ain't found one yet that I would pay 75% of asking price for. Crazy resell value

If you have a reliable car, keep it going. Invest in new tires, windshield, and getting it checked over by a mechanic. Even replacing major components like HVAC or transmissions might be worth the effort over buying a newer vehicle.

The new cars out there are, frankly, not as reliable and far more expensive to purchase and keep running. Manufacturers have switched to 8 and 10 speed transmissions, hybrid systems, and smaller displacement turbo motors to meet emissions and MPG targets enforced by our lovely federal government.

Even brands like Toyota have totally shite the bed on some of their newer products like the Tundra, Sequioa, and Lexus LX having shockingly common issues that require engine rebuilds and replacements. And this is with new products that costs substantially more than the more reliable designs they replaced.

I think "Keeping Up with the Jones" is a real thing but has definitely also become a cope for people who are jealous that they can't have nice things (I drive a car worth maybe $10,000 and rent a townhouse before people get mad)
