Let the archdiocese sell some of the property they’re sitting on to pay off their debts.

How much property does any diocese own besides the individual parishes and schools?

Unfortunately they can do just about whatever they want. Where else can you send kids to school safely?

There are plenty of places not named Louisiana with good public schools. Or you could drop some OT money and send your kids to boarding school.

I was told they own quite a lot of undeveloped land on the Northshore.

When organized religion starts paying taxes, get back to me. The Vatican should pay the tab.

When they claimed bankruptcy they set the course for this disaster. The amount of money that process has cost could have been put towards getting this resolved. The cover up here is the elephant in the room for the Archdiocese.

I’m not sure how it works in the Archdiocese, but in a former Diocese I was in, the Bishop taxed all collections at a 2% rate in addition to his appeal fund. The Archbishop could raise that tax and force tge parishes to pay. If parishioners cut their support to the parish, it will impact the parish, not the diocese. The parishes are self sustaining and pay their own bills. The schools are usually run by the diocese so they can raise tuition.

She should do her part by writing a HUGE check.
If not for the church, Gayle probably wouldn't have met Tom in the first place.
I'm sure Saints fans would be okay with increased ticket prices to help pay for this horrible scandal.

The fact that ppl still attend Catholic Churches after all that’s come out is the most mind boggling thing in our modern society.
It’s up there with agreeing with transgenderism to me.
I can’t wrap my mind around it.

People attend Catholic Church to receive the Body of Christ. It has nothing to do with the people running it. It’s about Faith.

Wonder what Christ thinks about the organization profiting billions and protecting pedos off his body?

Christ would prob rather the ppl attending feed homeless and help kids. IMO, of course.

Honestly though, public accountability may help. More people on the watch because they don’t want to have to give up the money may be good.

I find this absolutely repulsive, why in the hell should schools and parishioners today be on the hook and asked to pay for what these sickos did long ago?

A friend of mine was inappropriately involved with Michael Fraser at Visitation of Our Lady in Marrero. My friend killed himself a few years ago, by overdose.. whether intentionally or not, I don't know. But that's where shite stands today.

The leadership at that school knew what was going on with that man back then, and some of that leadership is still at that school to this day.

That's why I'm fine with the individual schools being held accountable along with the priests.

The letter said when the bankruptcy was filed there were 30 abuse claims, now there are more than 500. Either there is fraud, or my goodness the abuse was far worse than we imagined. My guess is a lot of schools and parishes will cease to exist. That’s where the extra money will come from. The Christopher Homes properties will be sold off to real estate investors. The seminary might close.

At some point it may be better to switch to a Chapter 7 and liquidate everything and start a new unless some are personally obligated to the debt and the suits.

Then the church could build new churches and schools or try to buy the ashes from the creditors.

They had a pause on the statue of limitations like California and New York. There's no doubt some of these allegations are true but the majority are bogus

Majority Bogus? How so?

Would you ever lie about being molested by a priest? Turn your entire life upside down with a lie about being molested by a priest?
Have attorneys delve into your life and try to ruin you just to get some money from a lie about being molested by a priest?

Nah. Not many of these are bogus. If anything, there’s a lot of adults out there scared to come forward because they know that life as they know it, is gone if they do.

It's always "we need money for this and that" crap. Like George Carlin said, God is all wise , knowing, loving, yet he's always needing money and not good with it. If God does exist, the world wouldn't be in the situation its in right now, and he would be looking out for us. Wars have always been about religion. I was raised Catholic, went to a school in Metairie as a kid, played CYO sports, participated in all that crap, until the age of reason, which was 18. The Catholic church has no merit asking for "donations " for legal costs, when they have covered up pedophile priests for many many years.
