Coming to say the same thing. Fricking $$$ in art, gold, statuary, reliquaries etc
The Catholic Church has untold $$$ worth of art and relics sitting in dusty storerooms that haven’t even been displayed in years that could easily cover this…. not to mention help a lot of their very poorest parishes across the world.

If someone wins one of these cases are they expected to give 10% back to the church?

Many cases happened in the parish where we attend church. I do NOT feel like it's up to me in any way, shape or form to pay for this ... and I personally know two people who were victims.

I know someone who was a victim of this when we were young boys. He is still screwed up today from this mess. He never seemed to get right. I found out about it some 15 years after it happened. Always wondered what was wrong with him.

“go with many bogus claims being filed”

Absolutely the case. But, also, it is usually one bad actor doing the huge majority of bad actions.

And yet you still support this corrupt organization. You do have the option to have some balls and switch to another denomination.

$26 million has been reportedly paid to attorneys representing the church.

I wonder what the overall plaintiff demand is?

If it’s less than $26mil then what good are the lawyers?

The two I know are brothers .. seem find as adults .. married with kids who are all great. Not sure if they’re visitors to church frequently but I do see them occasionally and their kids all went to catholic school. Our public options aren’t good though so…

Church expecting other people to pay even though it covered up child rape for decades. Sad that people still consider themselves Catholics.

It’s the one true Christian religion. Deal with it.

Perhaps the partners at Jones Walker that are Catholic will increase their giving.

It wasn’t specifically outlined, but it really looks like they’ll be coming with hat in hand for both. Maybe they’ll just use the second collections for that…..

When I was a kid, it seemed like second collections were rare. Now, we have a second collection at our church every week for something. What is next, a third collection

I wonder if the church has any sort of special confession that absolves it of these sins…

The ones that look like a concert with lighting and sound systems and pressure to tithe and no real Communion?

There are plenty of places not named Louisiana with good public schools. Or you could drop some OT money and send your kids to boarding school

This. If the majority of people who send their kids to Catholic and other private schools would all send their kids to public school, and get involved with the school, they could have quality public education.

Of course, I understand why any individual parents wouldn't want to be the lead cases and send their kids to public schools as they are now constituted. It would have to be a mass movement, at least in each district.

The movement towards magnet and STEM schools have helped some. Charter schools are a mixed bag so far IMO and the jury is still out on them.

After initially telling the varied apostolates that they would not be impacted, this whole thing is going to create some nasty infighting.
Why should a parish have to buck up for something it had no park of?
