Sorta same here. Wasn't into it through high school and college. Only drank on big occasions. Hit my 40s and started drinking every day and was having the time of my life when covid hit. I now only drink once a week, twice if there's a big game.
I manage a distributor and sales are definitely down.

cost. It's too expensive vs the golden era of cheap specials every night of the week.
Even based on inflation the $5 bladder bust special at Rendon Inn would still be cheap today.
I think Par 4s had a Friday night $5 all you can drink until 8pm.
So many places had cheap pitchers with free crawfish or oysters.

Is the marijuana that they are consuming safe? My assumption is the only reason we don’t hear more about the dangers of weed/THC is because it isn’t legal at the federal level. Once that happens the we will see studies and lawsuits. These kids have traded one danger for another.

You are an alcoholic. Congrats!
I’ve been called worse by better people…
Also , that was between the golf course and a bbq and it was all Corona lights. So that doesn’t count.
Oh and I don’t drink during the week.

Ok, so you're a binge drinker.....

You sound like a limpwristed twat who couldn’t handle their alcohol even if it was put in a sippy cup….
And that’s not the definition of binge drinking anyway.

Alcohol has caused girls to sleep with lots of ugly guys they wouldn’t have otherwise looked at… at best and has gotten them taken advantage of by evil men… at worst

People who don't have vices are boring. We need witty drunks now more than ever. The world could use a Churchill.
Lady Astor: " Winston, you are drunk"
Churchill: " Yes I am, and you are ugly, however in the morning I shall be sober."

alcohol =/= 'anything pleasurable in life'
That’s incorrect, it loosens you up in social settings to have fun.
People here seem to be equating a few drinks at a party to drinking a 750ml bottle of Jim Bean a night. One is responsible using alcohol for what it was meant for, the other has a drinking problem.
I would imagine the same people who consume alcohol who can’t control it, will be the same people who do the same with other substances.

I wonder how much is due to the rise of pot. Not saying that's bad I just wonder if that's a big part of it.
It’s “bad” only in that for some reason, being stoned and smelling like weed all day has lost its stigma. When I have carline duty, I notice parents who drop their kids off and pick them up reeking of marijuana. Unlike alcohol, which when people smell it on you in the middle of the work day, raises a lot of flags.
