As a guest, i just find Airbnb comes with more work and responsibility than a regular old hotel. And, unless you have a party of 5+, the hotel is probably cheaper or the same cost. In the Air bnb, it's a lot easier to damage something, you have to clean up, and you are basically responsible for someone's house. Being the person that books a place for the group is a thankless job that comes with some effort.
I've also gone back and forth on renting a property out on Airbnb. I think earning a month's worth of rent in 2 weekends sounds great. However, then I consider the possibility of pissing off my neighbors. Needing a property large enough to actually make money on it. Dealing with extra people and their questions. So, i just haven't taken the plunge yet.

AirBNB is 100% the way to go if you are looking to stay in the top 10% of places they have to offer. If you are traveling on a budget, a hotel or BNB type accommodation is usually far better of an experience.

too much work
lol, you guys love to say this over and over. Here’s the totality of the work required:
Pick up the shite you used
Take out your trash
Clean your dishes
If you can’t understand why a home with an off site housekeeper and staff needs someone to clean up what they used I don’t know what to tell you.
In many big cities that have banned a vacation rental hotels are now cheaper because of the shortage of inventory. But I stayed in an apt in Paris for $325/ night that was 3 bedroom and about 800 sq ft in the Latin District. Most hotels in the area were close to the same cost.
You may save a little in a hotel for 2 people, absolutely and do it. But 3+ people when you need multiple beds/ rooms you can often save A LOT in a vacation rental.

Yeah unless you're staying multiple days hotels are probably better. We had an airbnb at crystal beach last week and the birbnb charge was $625 and cleaning was $350 on a 4 night stay.

Where are yall staying where this is a regular thing?

You just stay in a hotel where you DON'T have to do this because it's the SAME price, or MORE.
Seriously that's the problem. Airbnb renters got greedy.

I've used it twice in Gatlinburg at 2 different places. Neither were especially clean, but not dirty either. Since pets are allowed, and that is why we book, I don't mind that as much. If it were just the wife and I, we couldn't stay there.

Well you don't have to worry about dishes in a hotel since the vast majority don't have dishes/kitchen in the room. I enjoy being able to have a full kitchen when I travel

$182/night advertised but 2 nights ends up at $769 total.
At least VRBO rolls it all into the price when you’re searching. I try to exclusively use them when I can.

lol what? I'd say their usefulness is pretty much the same in any location where you need a place to stay?

ore expensive than a hotel
some are, sure. Many others are not.

It's funny to me that so many people bash Airbnbs for either one-off situations like getting a clueless or bad owner, or for basic shite like "the price at checkout is different!". ther'es a slider. Click it. Boom- total price. It's like having a bad mcdonalds experience then swearing off the entire fast food industry in general.
My wife and I have stayed at dozens of Airbnbs from beaches to big downtown city centers, both in America and in Europe. As with MOST people, price is the biggest determining factor for us. Often times before a trip when doing research hotels have been comparable or cheaper, so we go wtih hotels. Many other times ABNB have been much more reasonable so we go with that. We certainly aren't stubborn enough to swear off ABNB forever as being shitty just becuase some are outrageous.

AirBnB has single-handedly made HOAs attractive again.

Agree. I’ve only used VRBO, and always good properties and experiences.

Canadian Rockies. Both in Calgary

I mean I guess you can see the Rockies way off in the distance from Calgary.
Similar to Denver. You can see where the mountains are.
Calgary was our rendezvous point. Stayed for the first two and a half days of our trip, then headed west through Banff, into BC and stayed in Golden w/my mom's life-long best friend and her husband. Then we stayed there the last night before we came back.
This was our view for the 4 days we were at their place:
Columbia Mountains in the first picture.(Looking right off of the deck) Rockies in the 2nd(Looking left) We quite obviously didn't want to leave but we plan on going back in 2-3 years.
And your comparison of Denver and Calgary is spot on. Calgary is a little further away from the front range (about 50 miles) than Denver is. But the similarities are evident.

Alright
Airbnb has some uses for very specific circumstances, but its days of always being better than a hotel are long over.
I am on vacation. I want to go to my room and do jackshit. I want turndown service and my room cleaned and fresh towels and to come and go as I please.

what a dumb meme lol
-what if the airbnb is only $150/night instead of $225?
-What if you don' have a meme man as the property owner? What if you have a regular normal person that doesn't have tears streaming down their face and doesn't overload you with rules? (For the record, in all my years of staying in ABNBs, I have NEVER, not once, had to wash sheets or do any laundry of any kind.)
-Cleaning fees are set by owners. Some are sky high and ridiculous, some are normal. Just don't book the sky high ones.
-What if instead of a normal boring tiny room where you can barely move...you have an entire home? With like, a liviin room? And a kitchen?

Also, some Airbnbs I've been in regulate the A/C as well. Can't yank it down as low as you can like in a hotel. Some hosts have all kinds of stupid rules.

I enjoy renting airbnb with private pools so I can do filthy things to my wife outdoors on vacation. But I like boutique hotels a lot too, so we do those from time to time. I’ve never had an issue with fees or charges renting airbnb. It’s always been a really seamless experience for me.

Had this happen in cali. I’d turn it down and 30 minutes later it’s back on 78. Left them a bad review with that info
