There were some wild scenes at malls today as people were trying to get the Swatch watches. Some of the stores had to shut down due to crowds.
Spending $400 on a plastic watch that can’t be serviced seems silly. But some are going for thousands on the secondary martketplace.
Most are buying to flip just like the Omega Swatches

Ok watch gods, I am making my first foray into watches. I will be buying used. Was looking at:
Tudor Black Bay
Omega Speedmaster 50th ( was looking for a 2008 which they have even though the actual 50th year is 2007). This would eventually be passed down to son who was born in 2008.
Thoughts? Other options? Longines? Sinn? Oris?

Nashville is having a watch show last week and this week.
A buddy and I went to the IWC store and they had about 20 watches from Watched and Wonders that are on tour around the country.
Pretty cool stuff checking out $500k watches and some that aren't even for sale.
If anyone is in town this week they have lots of shiny shite from all the big names and free bourbon.
We have dedicated Rolex, IWC, Breitling, Tag and Omega shops next to each other and a block away there's King Jewelers who has every other brand. King owns the other dedicated stores except Rolex because they got busted for gray market resale and lost their AD license.

Citizen diver.
$400-ish eco drive. Got myself one a month ago and its an insane value for what you get. Saphire, good lume, good bracelet, good bezel. Shameless submariner knockoff. Its a much nicer watch than my old marathon was. Bonus is it keeps time insanely good. Mine is still less than a second off after a month.
IMO, its a better choice to get into watches than the mid tier ($1000 to $5000) stuff. Those watches will almost all lose a ton of value on the used market and arent worth the money when you arent even sure what you like yet.

Has anybody seen one of the new Longines HydroConquests in the wild...specifically this one?
I like it but not that band

Tudor Black Bay Omega Speedmaster
Speedy would my personal choice; your intent to pass it along is an additional meaningful reason to go that route.

BB and Speedy are both terrific watches.
Since you mentioned it I think you might want to do some research on the Longines Zulu Spirit Time GMT and the newest Hydroquest models with/without GMT. Can get either in 39 or 42 mm. Several colorways of course and a lot of watch for the money IMO.
Lastly, as a first foray into watches Seiko has an infinite catalog of styles/designs.
